Watch It Crash
Dan P. Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Recanting all my aspirations and my fears
And when the sun came up that voice had disappeared
But it would linger on for years
It said "We can′t just blame it on our mothers
Claim everything they did was always wrong"
And there′s nothing we can do but watch it crash (watch it crash)
And there ain't no right and wrong when we know it won't be long
And there′s nothing we can do but watch it crash
So mercy, mercy, mercy me
Praying for the death of a man I′ll never meet
Though everyone will know the truth they'll still just make believe
Mercy mercy me
"We can′t just blame it on our mothers
Claim everything they did was always wrong"
And there ain't no turning back when our train is off its track
And there′s nothing we can do but watch it crash (watch it crash)
And there ain't no right and wrong when we know it won′t be long
And there's nothing we can do but watch it crash
So mercy, mercy, mercy me
Praying for the death of a man I'll never meet
Though everyone will know the truth they′ll still just make believe
Mercy mercy me
That′s all they came for, that's all they took
That′s all we had to offer, only dirty looks
And when they realized we'd given all we could
That′s when they finally understood
Mercy mercy mercy me
Haunted by the memories of things we'll never see
Guilty for the statements that we′ll never get to speak
Mercy mercy me
"We can't quite blame it on our mothers
Claim everything they did was always wrong"
And there ain't no turning back when our train is off its track
And there′s nothing we can do but watch it crash (watch it crash)
And there ain′t no right and wrong when we know it won't be long
And there′s nothing we can do but watch it crash
Watch it crash, and there's nothing we can do but watch it crash
The song "Watch It Crash" by Dan P. is a reflective piece on the inevitability of failure and the powerlessness that comes with it. The singer wakes up alone and hears a whisper in their ear, forcing them to confront their aspirations and fears. The voice tells them that they cannot simply blame their past and must accept the consequences of their actions. The chorus repeats the line "there's nothing we can do but watch it crash," emphasizing the feeling of helplessness in the face of failure.
The second verse includes the singer praying for someone they will never meet, highlighting the idea that even when we do not know individuals involved in a larger catastrophe, we still feel the weight of their actions. The final verse discusses the idea that sometimes success is not possible, and we must acknowledge when we have given all we can. The repeated “mercy, mercy, mercy me” at the end is an emotional plea for redemption and forgiveness.

And there ain't no right and wrong when we know it won't be long
When the end is near, morality no longer matters

So mercy, mercy, mercy me

They were only interested in one thing and left with just that
That's all we had to offer, only dirty looks
Because of our disappointments, all we could do was scowl
And when they realized we'd given all we could
Eventually, they understood that we had nothing else to give
That's when they finally understood
At that moment, they grasped the situation
Haunted by the memories of things we'll never see
We are tormented by regrets of experiences we will never have
Guilty for the statements that we'll never get to speak
We feel remorse for the things we were unable to express
And there ain′t no right and wrong when we know it won't be long
When the end is nigh, there is no clear right or wrong decision
And there′s nothing we can do but watch it crash
Again, we are helpless to prevent the fallout
Watch it crash, and there's nothing we can do but watch it crash
A repetition and emphasis of the previous line

It's an amazing song, but I gotta say, my favourite version is by Streetlight, still one of the best songs you'll ever hear no matter what version you listen to
neeeee5eeeee
I would kill to see an MU330 Concert with only fully instrumentated covers of Streetlight, BOTAR and anything else Toh Kay has worked on ever

I love the way the vocals are lol. The guitar and keys make this song have such an uneasy tone. I picture an american revolution soldier sitting in the grass right after he just lost a battle. The dead vocals give it so much depth man. It's a cool take on the song.

I think i am about tied with streetlights version of this song, with Toh Kays a close seconds. Let it be noted, however, that my music preference is somewhere in the between (it's a pun!) Acoustic type music and electricish, and that organ sounding thing really hit thr spot
