Savage is best known for penning the internationally syndicated relationship and sex advice column "Savage Love". Savage uses the column as a forum for his strong opinions that often flout "conservative family values"; he often encourages advice-seekers to pursue their fetishes. The tone of the column is frank in its discussion of sexuality, often humorous, and Savage does not shy away from using profanity. He is strongly opposed to both bestiality and incest. Though Savage encourages sexual experimentation, he does not encourage carelessness. He frequently makes use of his position - that of a columnist with a large and loyal audience - to spread AIDS awareness and to promote safe sex.
In 1991, Savage was living in Madison, Wisconsin, and working as a manager at a local video store that specialized in independent film titles. There, Savage befriended Tim Keck, co-founder of The Onion, who announced that he was moving to Seattleto help start an alternative weekly newspaper titled The Stranger. Savage "made the offhand comment that forever altered [his] life: 'Make sure your paper has an advice columnβeverybody claims to hate 'em, but everybody seems to read 'em'." Savage typed up a sample column, and to Savage's surprise Keck offered him the job.

Wow, what a diatribe! Don't judge other people by your standards. Just because you're willing to put EVERYTHING about yourself out there doesn't mean every man is like you, Dan. The most ADULT thing would be for the parents to resolve their own issues before the wedding. The mother needs closure and there's no better way to do that than to get together with the father AND HIS BOYFRIEND and work it out. There's absolutely no reason the daughter should have to shoulder the burden of upsetting one or both parents. If the parents can't set aside their emotional baggage for the sake of their child then they need make the hard choices themselves.

Would you feel the same way if the father had left the wife for a woman that he'd been having an affair with for 30 years? I'm curious.
