Currently, Wilson is perhaps best known for his co-writing and collaborations with other artists. He contributed three songs to the 2011 album 21 by UK singer-songwriter Adele, which has had the longest Top 5 run in history on the Billboard Album Chart and which won the 2012 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Wilson was part of that Grammy-winning team, as he co-wrote and produced the hit single "Someone Like You" which held the No. 1 position for 5 weeks in the U.S. and has remained in the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 for months.
Wilson co-wrote six songs with the Dixie Chicks for their 2006 album Taking the Long Way, which garnered the coveted Album of the Year at the 2007 Grammy Awards. Wilson himself received the 2007 Grammy Award for Song of the Year for "Not Ready to Make Nice," one of the songs he co-wrote with the Dixie Chicks. His accolades as a songwriter have grown from success with his own band Semisonic. In 1999, Wilson was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song for Semisonic's "Closing Time," which hit No. 6 in the Top 40 Chart and was No. 1 on the Modern Rock Chart.
We Belong Together

For reeling in our legendary life line
Then our two souls would finally connect
I know whenever you're near me I'm behaving weirdly
I turn away my eyes
You read it insincerely
I mumble when I'm trying to be clear
When I'm trying
You and me
We're living our strangers lifes
We're making lovers, we never could be friends, no
You and me
Getting older but somehow that's fine
But we belong together in the end
We belong together
In the end
Chosen the words we choose are frozen in the??
Or the fly after countries
But no one even knows them
Into our ears and nobody believes
You say
You hardly know the one that I'm becoming these days
I feel it to
I wouldn't recognize my own face
If I met me walking down my street
If I met me walking
Met me walking
You and me
We're living our strangers lifes
We're making lovers, we never could be friends, no
You and me
Getting older but somehow that's fine
We belong together in the end
We belong together in the end
You and me
We're living our strangers lifes
We're making lovers, we never could be friends, no
You and me
Stumbeling in paradise
We belong together in the end
We belong together in the end
The lyrics to Dan Wilson's "We Belong Together" speak of two people who were once intimate and thought they would have a lazy lifetime together, but now live as strangers in each other's lives. The first stanza holds on to the nostalgia of a once-shared passion and yearning for the ultimate connection of their two souls. However, it becomes clear that the relationship has gone sour as the second stanza brings up the growing disconnect between the two. The singer reveals that they feel like they do not know themselves anymore and if they were to meet themselves, they would hardly recognize the person they have become.
The chorus repeats the line "We belong together in the end" twice, emphasizing the hope that despite the disconnection, they still have a place in each other's lives. The phrase "strangers life" describes an impersonal way of living, as if no two people could have ever shared such an intimately memorable past together. The song connects the emotional sentiments of distant love and return, the grappling with the idea of a love that once was but isn't anymore.
Overall, the song speaks to the idea that even though their relationship has fallen apart, there is still hope for them to come together again one day. It reminds us that love is complex and nonlinear, and it's okay to have doubts or uncertainties, but ultimately we cannot control where our hearts take us.
