Ex-vocalist Jonny Craig also received high marks for contributing to the band's unorthodox soul sound and guitarist Will Swan has been recognized for his intricate, fast-moving guitar licks and riffs.
The band currently consists of vocalists Jon Mess and Tilian Pearson, guitarists Will Swan and Andrew Wells and drummer Matthew Mingus.
To date, the band has released ten studio albums, two live albums and one EP. Their most recent album, entitled Jackpot Juicer was released in 2022.

Deception
Dance Gavin Dance Lyrics

Better wake up before it's all gone
Half wrapped in a leopard print sex swing
The beat is shit and I'm 'bout to make a new slang
If your momma was a bed of kites then we could fly away
And fuck this night right
You've never been me before
I feel the will I trick
Self-deprecation to settle the score
Here comes the reaper to erase what I've become
I won't be plastic and neutered and numb
I won't be plastic and neutered and numb
I won't be plastic and neutered and numb
I couldn't help it made me wonder
If you're the weight that pulled us under
All of it was make believe, all of it was make believe
And now I'm pulling back the covers
Thought I could trust you like no other
All of it was make believe, all of it was make believe
Deception
Cordial graces, smiling faces, back and forth
Antiquated, overrated, social whores
I don't need you
I don't need you anymore
I don't need you
I don't need you anymore
And there's a code for people like you
Always keeping score
And you will never make me like you
Because I'm colder than before
You made me this way
You made me this way
Pay your debt, don't suffocate
If you're baking it, don't eat the cake
If you're faking it, then show 'em the bait
Don't be so disgusting
Like wind on the wick
I see the symptoms inside of your binges
I checked that you were dead
I check then I got sucked in
I couldn't help it made me wonder
If you're the weight that pulled us under
All of it was make believe, all of it was make believe
And now I'm pulling back the covers
Thought I could trust you like no other
All of it was make believe, all of it was make believe
Deception
The lyrics in Dance Gavin Dance's "Deception" are full of ambiguity, confusion, and pain. The song explores the idea of deception in different forms and how it affects an individual emotionally. The first verse describes a situation where the person feels trapped, half-wrapped "in a leopard print sex swing" with a terrible beat in the background. The lyrics are probably suggesting that the person is stuck in a bad relationship or environment, unable to escape the monotony and boredom of their daily routine.
The second verse takes a deeper dive into the person's emotions as they struggle with self-doubt and low self-esteem. The lines "Here comes the reaper to erase what I've become / I won't be plastic and neutered and numb" suggest that the person is tired of conforming to society's standards and wants to break free from the shackles that hold them back. The lyrics also hint at the idea of self-deception as the person tries to convince themselves that they're okay, but deep down, they know that they're not.
The chorus of the song talks about the idea of deception in relationships, where the person feels betrayed, and everything they believed was a lie. The lines "All of it was make-believe, all of it was make-believe / Deception" sum up the emotional toll that deception has on a person.
Overall, "Deception" explores the darker themes of mental health, self-deception, and betrayal. It highlights the psychological battle that people face when they're struggling with these issues.

I’m beginning to firmly believe that Will Swan should be considered to be amongst the five most talented melodic guitarists in the world. To me, the most special elements of songwriting are the emotions that were woven into the music and/or the emotions they invoke in the listener rather than sheer skill/raw talent. His guitar just sings, man. He’s like, low-key the third vocalist of the band
@xCarnageV1
It really is fucking wild the amount of layers there are to peel back in DGD’s music, and Will’s is arguably the thickest layer. He murders everything he’s involved in.
@nanekivonrosewald9933
YES YES YES WILL SWAN IS SUCH A GOD 😮💨😮💨
@XRROW_
deserves a spot in the hall of fame tbh he puts a lot of the other guitarists in there to shame
@requiemdylon9136
Was thinking this today that this song specifically, the instruments are riding the same wave the vocals are and it rides nice and smooth
