I'm Down With Brown Town
Dance Gavin Dance Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Maybe we're not the only ones
Let's just say we're the unwritten
Let's make believe that we are capable of parallel galaxies
There's a nest in the mud with my limbs untied

Beautiful girls with no ambition
Piling hair at the fucking salon
Happily managing all of their friends
You can't live life through your cellular phone

I told you I don't need you
Baby, I need you
Kurt, cut your loose ends, I don't need you
Baby, I need you
Man, cut your loose ends, I don't need you
Baby, I need you
Don't follow the trends
I told you I don't need you

I can't decide, I can't decide

No, it's okay, you don't need them anyway
And if I go, you can't say everything will be the same
Love can make you laugh, but I know you wanna love
Well the air is thin, I know you'll be over this again

Maybe we're not the only ones
Let's just say we're the unwritten

Let's make believe that we are capable of parallel galaxies
There's a nest in the mud with my limbs untied

Overall Meaning

The song "I'm Down With Brown Town" by Dance Gavin Dance talks about the concept of living a life that is not defined by societal norms and conventions. In the first verse, the band talks about the human capacity for imagination and how people can create different realities for themselves. They mention the possibility of parallel galaxies and make-believe, suggesting that there are other ways of looking at the world.

The second verse focuses on the idea of beautiful women with no ambition. The band seems to criticize the notion that women should only focus on their appearance and should not have any other aspirations in life. They also mention how people can become so engrossed in their social media lives that they forget to live outside of their cellular phones.

The chorus of the song seems to contradict itself as the lyrics state, "I don't need you, baby, I need you." It could be interpreted as conflicting emotions or someone struggling to communicate their feelings properly. The next few lines in the chorus refer to someone named Kurt and asking him to cut his "loose ends," suggesting that he should move on from a situation or person that is no longer beneficial to him.

The bridge of the song encourages people to let go of the past and embrace new experiences. It emphasizes that love and laughter are important in life, and although things may not always work out, it is possible to move on and find happiness again.

In summary, the song "I'm Down With Brown Town" is about breaking free from societal expectations and living life on one's own terms. It's about embracing creativity and imagination, letting go of things and people that no longer serve a purpose, and finding joy and love in life.

This album is such a standout instrumentally compared to the rest of the albums. Happiness is Kurt’s peak influence on DGD’s sound, no doubt.

I love brown town. Great schools, friendly people, always warm but quite dry. I frequently vacation there when I need to blow off some steam or just looking to have a wild, crazy time. Always a good choice, and no need for protection. It's one of the safest places to be, come one come all.

Drop Therapy

Jonny Craig seems to love it there.

David Pottinger

I just performed this song at my school Talent Show. 😁
