Cheat Codes
Danger Mouse Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Two-fifteen
Young gunners in beast mode, K-9 teeth show
Cheat code playing with unlimited free throws
Playin' that feet, move faster than a Capri stroll
Where they run in the strip like the women in peep shows
Pay the price, gamble with ya life like Pete Rose
Who got the streets of Philly flooded like Puerto Rico's?
You get McNabbed like Donovan, it's finitos
Theologians point to the trap house that God is in
Go on, take his name in vain, like a phlebotomist
I'm the one that tell you what time it is
Never been into selling you promises, it's hot as a pot of grits
That's not a myth, Blackness is not a monolith
A lotta niggas probably gotta see psychologists
To understand why we wallowing where the bottom is
And common sense isn't what they teaching in colleges
Shit, it's real when you done lost your last feeling
Jump, then bounce back off the glass ceiling
Back to stealing, to Xanax and smack dealing
That's appealing, go grab your kids and shield them
Where hustling became an art, the mantra is manage not defanged
Where shit ain't for the faint of heart
The rated R, everybody wrists got razor marks
In projects, township favelas and trailer parks
The wave been a vibe
Better head for the church, mosque, or synagogue
Chase the Grim Reefer with Henn-ocide
We need it like a hole in the head, thorn in his side
It all take its toll in the end, strong niggas die
Made figures who name bring became king
Or became fathers and sons facing the same thing
In the hood, mouth full of blood, tasting the same sting
Playing a game, trying hard to hang by the same string
You better get the cheat code or get RICO-ed, nigga
Bad credit get your shit repoed, listen
The lyrics of Cheat Codes by Danger Mouse and Black Thought depict the grim reality of life in the streets, where young gunners are in beast mode and the only way to survive is by using cheat codes. The term cheat codes refers to finding shortcuts or ways to gain an advantage by any means necessary. The lyrics paint a picture of a world where everything is up for grabs, including unlimited free throws, feet that move faster than a Capri stroll, and the streets of Philly flooded like Puerto Rico's. The song also references the gambling world, with lines such as "pay the price, gamble with your life like Pete Rose." Black Thought brings up the issue of mental health, stating that many people in the community probably need to see psychologists to understand why they are wallowing at the bottom.
The lyrics present a bleak perspective on life, where hustle is an art, and common sense isn't what they teach in colleges. The song talks about how in the hood, everyone's wrists have razor marks, and facing the same challenges is a common occurrence. In the video, Danger Mouse and Black Thought are seen walking through the streets of Philly, a city known for its hard-hitting realities, and the backdrop of the video complements the song's lyrics. The song speaks to the challenges and struggles of survival in the streets and addresses issues such as mental health, poverty, and crime.

What a comment!!!💯💪🏾👍🏾🔥
@dave990
Absolute masterpiece!! The best hip hop album in years
@TheMarcosvolta
whoa buddy, this album IS fantastic, but theres been a lot of great albums in recent years. i dont even know where to begin, you just need to dig around more, its all good and its all out there waiting for you. <3
@dave990
@@TheMarcosvolta Yeah man, I've heard most albums brother. Unless you can name me one pure form of hip hop/rap album in the last 5 years that's better than this? Cheat codes is a masterpiece dude. There's definitely other contenders though. Maybe I should of used the word 'arguably' best album in years 👍
@TheMarcosvolta
@@dave990 5 years? easy. Run The Jewels 4, Aesop Rock - Garbology, Aesop Rock - Spirit World Field Guide, Freddie Gibbs - Soul Sold Separately, Freddie Gibbs w/ Madlib - Bandana, Nas - Kings Disease 3, Atmosphere - Word?, Madlib - Sound Ancestors, Sa-Roc - The Sharecropper's Daughter, Sol Messiah - GOD CMPLX, I could go on but I think you get the idea. you asked for one pure form and i just gave you ten. clearly you havent listened to most albums homie, nobody has, lol. i love me some danger mouse, he does great work, but hes by far not the best producer for rap/hiphop music. black thought is on another level, of course, but this collab isnt his best work, though it is damn good. its just easy for people to claim that mcdonalds makes the best hamburgers when theyve only tried burger king as their other option. theres always someone out there doing more, bigger and better than what anyone is aware of. there is always someone who listens to more music than you, and even more than myself. the key is that this isnt a competition, its about networking and spreading knowledge of art. is this collab the best rap album in the last 5 years? no, not even close; but its definitely towards the top, along with everything else I listed above. the main takeaway here is that you now have 10 albums to go check out, and if youre unfamiliar with any of those artists, even better, because they all have discographies for you to explore now to open up your horizons. have fun digging man.
@dave990
@@TheMarcosvolta Yeah good shout outs buddy, some classic albums there. Little simz - grey area, Lupe Fiasco - Tutsuo & youth, Masta ace & Mark polo - The Breukleun story, Vince staples - Big fish theory, Mac Miller - Swimming, Madlib - Bandana... We could go on forever naming other albums because there's a whole catalogue of gems out there. Like I said in my last comment, I should of said 'arguably or one of the best' albums in years. My original comment is just a figure of speech bro... You're clearly bit of a hip hop historian and have a good taste in music, I respect that. ATB✌️
@TheMarcosvolta
@@dave990 its all about spreading the love and expanding horizons. i am by far not the biggest hiphop/rap head, i just aim to keep expanding my perceptions and those of who would like to grow in parallel with me. i see lupe has a new album i havent checked out yet, drill music in zion, so i'll have to dig through his catalog a bit more while i work on some art projects. peace be with you.
