Very engaged in the civil society, he sang and personified the lust for life, the hopes and the doubts of his generation, often clashing with politicians, elites, and older generations. He is especially famous for a tense debate about the struggles, hopes and doubts of French youth with the then first secretary of the French Socialist party, François Mitterrand, who was later twice elected president of France. Later he also had problems in a misunderstood verbal clash about French veterans.
Daniel Balavoine loved Africa and this transpires in many of his songs. He dedicated himself to humanitarian projects and took part in the Paris-Dakar rallye two times. The third time he took part only for humanitarian reasons. On the 14th january 1986, around 8pm, his helicopter crashed between Mali and Burkina-Faso, killing all five passengers, putting an end to his career, and leaving behind his pregnant wife Corine and his son Jeremy.
Tout va Bien

Et tu le sais très bien
Tout va bien
Mon rêve est mon destin
Tu me diras
Chanter pour le rire
Le monde a mal au pied
Tiens, j'y viens
Il faut leur raconter
Je vais voir au prochain couplet
Tout va bien
Et tu le sais très bien
Tout va bien
Dans mon rêve incertain
Tu me diras
Il faudrait y croire
Le monde devient beau
Tiens, je viens
De trouver mon refrain
C'est l'histoire
D'un monde nouveau
Tout va bien
Et tu le sais très bien
Tout va bien
Mais mon rêve va l'éteindre
Tu me diras
Ta chanson s'étire
Tu n'as rien raconté
Viens, malin
Sur un tel refrain
Ecrira un couplet entier
The lyrics to Daniel Balavoine's song Tout Va Bien convey a message of hope and positivity in the face of a world filled with malaise and uncertainty. The repeated lines of "tout va bien", meaning "everything is alright", serve as a reminder to the listener that despite the struggles and suffering that may surround us, there is always a reason to remain optimistic and keep moving forward. The singer reflects on the power of music to uplift the spirit and provide solace in difficult times, urging himself and others to continue singing and spreading joy. The final verse, however, acknowledges the fragility of this optimism and the possibility that even our dreams may not be enough to overcome the harsh reality of the world we live in.
The use of repetition throughout the song emphasizes its central message and creates a sense of reassurance and comfort for the listener. The initial verses set the stage for a tale of resilience and perseverance, as the singer acknowledges the pain and suffering of the world around him but insists that "tout va bien" nonetheless. The second half of the song builds on this theme, exploring the idea that even in the face of our own doubts and fears, we can find the courage to believe in a better future and work towards making it a reality.
Overall, Daniel Balavoine's Tout Va Bien is a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of hope in times of darkness and despair.
