Daniel Boucher Lyrics

Comme mon voisin
J'ai voulu flasher
Quitte à faire le fin
Quitte à faire le fou
Quitte à dire rien
À ma parenté
Que j'étais chez nous
J'ai souvent pensé
Que c'est mon voisin
Qui mène le marché
Qui m'amène mon pain
Qui m'amène mes sous
Quitte à gagner moins
Quitte à m'incliner
Même si j'ai bûché
Toute la terre chez nous
Mais là, à l'avenir, m'as dire
{Refrain :}
{Refrain :}
In Daniel Boucher’s song, Chez nous, the singer talks about his desire to be like his neighbor and fit in with society. He mentions that he has tried to sing like his neighbor, to be flashy and adventurous, all while forgetting that he is back at home. The singer has often felt that his neighbor is leading the way while he is simply following, as his neighbor brings him bread and money. He is content with being second-best and letting his neighbor take the lead. But, the singer realizes that it’s his turn to take control and open his home to everyone. He wants to love where he’s from and not be afraid to say it, to welcome those who want to come into his home with open arms. The singer’s main point is to let everyone know that there is always room at his table, and they are more than welcome to join his home.
Overall, the song expresses the importance of taking pride in where you come from and not forgetting your roots. The singer may have started out trying to fit in, but he has come to realize the value of his own life and the beauty of his own home. He wants to share that with everyone, to show that no matter who we are, we are all welcome to come and be a part of his community.
