What Child Is This?
Daniel and Mackenzie DeWitt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[Chorus]
What this world needs is a few more rednecks
Some people ain't afraid to take a stand
What this world needs is a little more respect
For the Lord and the law and the workin' man
We could use a little peace and satisfaction
Some good people up front to take the lead
A little less talk and a little more action
And a few more rednecks is what we need

I was raised on beans and cornbread
And I like my chicken fried
Yes, I drive a pickup truck
And I'm full of American pride
I keep a Bible on my table
I got a flag out on my lawn
And I don't believe in mindin'
No one's business but my own

And I love them Rambo movies
I think they make a lot of sense
And it's a shame ole John Wayne
Didn't live to run for president

[And I'm a catfish connoisseur
And I love the Lynyrd Skynyrd band
And I'm crazy about the NFL
And I'm a diehard NASCAR Fan]

And I don't care what nobody says
I don't trust ole Gorbachev
And I don't know who turned him on
But it's time to turn him off

[Chorus]

Now they're tryin' to take my guns away
And that would be just fine
If you take 'em away from the criminals first
I'll gladly give ya mine
And I don't mind payin' taxes
But it makes my temper itch
When my hard earned money goes
To make some politician rich

What most people call a redneck
Ain't nothin' but a workin' man
And he makes his livin'
By the sweat of his brow
And the calluses on his hands
Now you intellectuals may not like it
But there ain't nothin' that you can do
'Cause there's a whole lot more of us common-folks
Then there ever will be of you

[Chorus]

That's what we need
And a few more rednecks is what we need

Overall Meaning

The song “What this world needs” by Daniel and Mackenzie DeWitt is an anthem for blue-collar Americans who love their country, God, and their trucks. The song praises rednecks as hardworking, honest, and unpretentious people who stay true to their roots and beliefs. In the chorus, the singers claim that the world needs more rednecks who aren’t afraid to stand up for their values, fight for their rights, and lead by example. The song suggests that rednecks are the backbone of America who deserve more respect and recognition from society.

The lyrics of the song reflect the stereotype of a redneck as a rural, conservative, and patriotic person who loves guns, barbeque, and country music. The singer expresses his love for traditional American values such as family, freedom, and faith. The song praises the working-class as the backbone of America and criticizes politicians, intellectuals, and celebrities who are out of touch with the common people's reality. The chorus reiterates the need for action instead of just talk, as well as the loyalty to the land, the Lord, and the working man.

As a nurse I absolutely find other nurses who post tik toks while on the job extremely annoying and unprofessional.

@forloveoftruth

You're right, I absolutely agree. Back in the mid 90's, I did clerical work, working closely with physicians and nurses at a small medical facility. Back in those days there was much more professionalism in the work place and doctors and nurses were held to a higher standard. Today we see medical personnel choreographing twisting their butts around in the facilities they work at and filming it to post on social media. Sadly those types of things actually get applaud and go vital. The public should be repulsed by these adults acting like little teenagers and it should not be well recieved. Futhermore, the superiors should be strongly reprimanding that type of behavior on the job. Or perhaps even fire them.

Narcissism is a major problem in this country, and I blame all social media platforms for turning people into attention seeking fools.
