We rode horses made of sticks
I wore black and he wore white
He would always win the fight
Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Seasons came and changed the time
We I grew up, I called him mine
He would always laugh and say
"Remember when we used to play?"
Bang bang, I shot you down
Bang bang, you hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, I used to shoot you down
Now he′s gone, I don't know why
And ′till this day, sometimes I cry
He didn't even say goodbye
He didn't even take the time to lie
Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down
Down
My baby shot me down
The lyrics of Daniela Andrade's song "Bang Bang" are a vivid description of a tragic love story. The first verse puts us in a childhood setting, where the singer and her lover were playing together. They both enjoyed playing cowboy and shooting fake guns made of sticks. She mentions the color of their outfits, her in black and him in white, which potentially symbols the contrast between good and bad, purity and corruption, or life and death. It seems liker her lover was always the winner of their playful fights, but we still sense a spirit of joy and innocence.
In the chorus, the mood changed completely, and a sense of sorrow and tragedy enveloped the song. The singer was shot down by her lover and hit the ground, creating an awful sound. The repetition of the phrase "Bang bang" amplifies the severity and brutality of the situation. In the second verse, we learn that they grew up together and even became lovers. She would recall their childhood memories with fondness, but the pain of his death hinders her from enjoying those moments. The tables have turned, and now she is the one who shot him down. The circumstances of his demise are never quite revealed. The singer admits that she doesn't know why he left her without even saying goodbye or bidding farewell. The last line, "My baby shot me down," creates an emotional punch that leaves the listener devastated.
