Y las vendo muy ricas (Chica-chica-chica-chica)
Yo jalo el cordón (Chica-chica-chica-chica)
Y se para el tren (Chica-chica-chica-chica)
I gotta got it, got it bad
I know I want it
I'm running like a maratón
Right through my eyes' skin
Understanding where I'm from
Ay, that's why they call me Frijolito
Arroz en blanco, gallo pinto
My dreams revueltos, casaditos
Not one or other, I can have it all
(Tell me why, tell me why, tell my why)
I can have it all
(Gotta try, gotta try, gotta try)
Niña, servin' up your tajaditas
Spread yourself so thin
Say it's okay 'cause that's what they want
Voices in your head
Agree with popular opinion
Look inside yourself and see what happens when you listen
This one's for my mami, this one's for my dad
Gave up everything to give me
What they couldn't have
This one's for the dreamers
Working through their past
You are not defined by all the things that you don't have
(Ooh)
And we gonn' make it out fine, yeah
(Ah)
Just say we'll make it out fine, yeah
(Ooh)
Give it my heart and my kindness
(Ah)
'Cause I'm Daniela Andrade
I gotta got it, got it bad
I know I want it
I'm running like a maratón
Blue on my colors burn
Right through my eyes' skin
Understanding where I'm from
Ay, that's why they call me Frijolito
Arroz en blanco, gallo pinto
My dreams revueltos, casaditos
Not one or other, I can have it all
(Tell me why, tell me why, tell my why)
I can have it all
(Gotta try, gotta try, gotta try)
Yo vendo tajaditas (Chica-chica-chica-chica)
Y las vendo muy ricas (Chica-chica-chica-chica)
Yo jalo el cordón (Chica-chica-chica-chica)
Y se para el tren
Y se para el tren
Y se para el tren
Y se para el tren
Y se para el tren (Chica-chica-chica-chica)
The lyrics of Daniela Andrade's song "Gallo Pinto" speak of the personal struggles and aspirations of the singer. The lines "I gotta got it, got it bad / I know I want it" denote her intense desire to achieve something in life. She compares this to running a marathon with the blue color of her emotions searing through her skin. The lyrics speak of the challenges she has faced as a person of Latin American heritage, as seen in lines such as "Ay, that's why they call me Frijolito / Arroz en blanco, gallo pinto", where she refers to herself as the "little bean" who is a mix of white rice and "gallo pinto", the traditional rice and beans dish from Latin America. However, she affirms that her identity is not her limitation and she can have it all - "My dreams revueltos, casaditos / Not one or other, I can have it all" - and that her family, especially her parents, has played an integral role in molding her into the person she is today.
The song also touches upon societal expectations and how they can be damaging to one's individuality. Andrade advises the listener to not spread themselves too thin, conforming to popular opinion, but rather to look inside themselves, and see what happens when they listen to their inner voice. The song, therefore, is a message of perseverance and power, urging the listener to never give up, even in the face of societal pressures and cultural barriers.
