Blackout
Danielle Bradbery Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Baby, I'm a fighter
I've been down this road, it's nothing new
Just when you think it may be over
I come back for more and I'm still not through

Please don't push me tonight
'Cause I don't know what I
'Cause I don't know what I'll do
And if you push me tonight
If you push me tonight
Don't think I can protect you

Are you gonna save yourself when I'm going down?
'Cause when I'm about to blackout
I wanna go another round
Another shot of you is all it takes to drown
When I'm about to blackout
I wanna go another round

I'm in the middle of the countdown
But I don't care 'cause I'm used to getting bruised
It's not like I'm tryna suffer
I can't help it, black and blue

And if you push me tonight
If you push me tonight
Don't think I can protect you

Are you gonna save yourself when I'm going down? (Save)
'Cause when I'm about to blackout
I wanna go another round (wanna go another round)
Another shot of you is all it takes to drown
When I'm about to blackout (blackout)
I wanna go another round

When I'm about to blackout
Oh, I'm about to blackout
But I wanna go another round

I gotta stay, I gotta stay, I gotta stay
Focused
I gotta stay, I gotta stay, I gotta stay
Focus
Before I blackout

Are you gonna save yourself when I'm going down?
'Cause when I'm about to blackout
I wanna go another round (another round)
Another shot of you is all it takes to drown
When I'm about to blackout (oh)
I wanna go another round (another round)
Are you gonna save yourself when I'm going down?
'Cause when I'm about to blackout
I wanna go another round (oh, I wanna go down)
Another shot of you is all it takes to drown (takes to drown)
When I'm about to blackout
I wanna go another round

Baby, it's not over, oh
Baby, it's not over

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Danielle Bradbery's "Blackout" tell the story of a person who has been consistently battered down by life's trials but continues to persevere without giving up. The singer says that they have been down this road before and have come back for more even when others may have given up. The singer is self-aware of their limitations and pleads with their loved one to not push them too far because they do not know what they are capable of in that moment. The song is about the singer's struggle to keep going, and how they feel like they're about to black out or give up completely, but they still want to go another round.

Throughout the song, there is a sense of defiance, as the singer refuses to let their hardships define them. The line, "It's not like I'm tryna suffer, I can't help it, black and blue" highlights the singer's determination to keep going despite the pain they are feeling. The chorus repeats the sentiment, as the singer acknowledges the danger they may pose to themselves and others, but they continue to fight anyway. The song ends on a hopeful note, with the repeated line "Baby, it's not over", suggesting that the singer will keep fighting and enduring despite the obstacles in their way.

Overall, the song is a powerful anthem for anyone who has experienced hardship and continues to fight, even when they feel like they are about to give up.

Danielle's soaring vocal on this one blows me away. She MUST be a musical genius to pull this off with perfect pitch wide range, intricate timing and deep emotion. Amazing!

ROD SINGS

Just covered this song would sincerely appreciate any feedback!!😊

@Sir Eugene Courtney Sounds like two kinds of reverb: plate and echo. Both are typical. I think it adds to the mystery and mode of this song. Dani's tone and pitch are undeniably good though no matter what type of reverb is used. I think it is a great mix!

Sir Eugene Courtney

Am detecting added echo.

I've been listening to Danielle's music since her days on The Voice and I can't express enough how incredible it has for me personally with me been being able to notice all the growth that has happened to her as a talented musical artist that is. She literally has a voice like no other and most importantly, she sings with her heart and she sings with pure passion. And I love that about her as a musical artist. This song is just amazing and I'm so happy she landed a spot to have a song on the Charlie's Angel's soundtrack. Keep it up Danielle!!

Agreed

@Tony Leman Danielle wanted to do just that with a song when on The Voice. Had to wait for the right song to do that. Stronger was the song that she was able to show case that power.

Me too! I Love Danielle. Most beautiful voice in pop, country music today.
