Shallow
Danielle Bradbery Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tell me somethin', girl
Are you happy in this modern world?
Or do you need more?
Is there somethin' else you're searchin' for?

I'm fallin'
In all the good times
I find myself longing for change
And in the bad times, I fear myself

Tell me something, boy
Aren't you tired tryna fill that void?
Or do you need more?
Ain't it hard keepin' it so hardcore?

I'm fallin'
In all the good times
I find myself longing for change
And, in the bad times, I fear myself

I'm off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I'll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface where they can't hurt us
We're far from the shallow now

In the sha-ha, sha-la-low
In the sha-sha-la-la-la-low
In the sha-ha, sha-ha-ha-low
We're far from the shallow now

Hoo, huh, uh, huhh-ow
Huh, huhh-huhhh

I'm off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I'll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface where they can't hurt us
We're far from the shallow now

In the sha-ha, sha-la-low
In the sha-ha, sha-la-la-la-low
In the sha-ha, sha-ha-low

We're far from the shallow now oh oh
We're far from the shallow now

Overall Meaning

The song "Shallow" by Danielle Bradbery is a cover of the original song by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper from the movie "A Star is Born." The lyrics of the song explore the theme of self-discovery, courage and the desire for deeper connections in life. The song begins with the questions, "Tell me somethin', girl, are you happy in this modern world? Or do you need more? Is there somethin' else you're searchin' for?" These lines suggest a desire to dig deeper into one's inner self and search for something more meaningful in life.

The second verse is sung by Bradley Cooper's character in the original song, where he asks, "Tell me something, boy, aren't you tired tryna fill that void? Or do you need more? Ain't it hard keepin' it so hardcore?" These lines highlight societal pressures to fit into a certain mold and the difficulty in staying true to oneself. The chorus "I'm off the deep end, watch as I dive in, I'll never meet the ground, crash through the surface, where they can't hurt us, we're far from the shallow now" represents taking a leap of faith and diving into the deeper, unknown parts of oneself, and reaching a place where traditional societal norms can't hold us back.

Overall, "Shallow" is a powerful song about breaking free from societal pressures and discovering oneself. The soaring chorus and powerful emotion behind the lyrics make this song a top hit worldwide.

Danielle Bradbery, has such amazing range, a beautiful tone, and her diction is flawless. How she is not a top singer, is totally baffling. Her low range is delicious, and she moves like a Ferrari, through to the top of her range. Loved her since the first audition, on the voice. Hope she is recognised more very soon.
