I've Had It
Danielle Brisebois Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Heart like a wheel, could never be real
We're coming down again
Stick in the knife, and have a nice life
Coming down again, without you
Coming down again, feel life
Coming down again

And I shouldn't have to feel, the sadness
It's unreal, your madness
I don't wanna see, your gladness
I've had it

Heart made of steel, could no longer feel
Coming down again
You weren't a friend while sticking it in
Coming down again, without you
Coming down again, feel life
Coming down again

And I shouldn't have to feel, the sadness
It's unreal, your madness
I don't wanna see, your gladness
I've had it

It's unreal, what you feel
What I feel
What's the deal?
People kill for love that's half this real
And I try and I try
And you lie and you lie
And I, I wanna die
And I give and I give
And you take and you take
And what's wrong? You were real
But you're just a fake
And I'm stuck outta luck
Can I borrow a buck?
I'm shattered
I'm fucked
I'm a girl knocked up

The sadness
It's unreal, your madness
I don't wanna see, your gladness
I've had it

It's unreal, what you feel
What I feel
What's the deal?
People kill for love that's half this real
And I try and I try
And you lie and you lie
And I, I wanna die
And I give and I give
And you take and you take
Always thought you were real
But you're just a fake
And I, "gonna do it again," you always say
Oh, oh, yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah

La la la la, la la la, la
La la la la, la la la, la

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Danielle Brisebois's song, "I've Had It," speak to the pain of dealing with heartbreak and betrayal. The first lines, "heart like a wheel, could never be real," set a tone of shattered illusions and disappointment. The repetition of "coming down again" emphasizes the feeling of falling and hitting rock bottom after a relationship has ended. The line "stick in the knife, and have a nice life" suggests a feeling of being stabbed in the back and left to deal with the aftermath alone.

The chorus expresses a desire to escape the sadness and madness caused by the breakup, as the singer declares that she has had enough. The second verse continues the theme of emotional numbing or shutting down, with the image of a heart made of steel that can no longer feel. The lines "you weren't a friend while sticking it in" directly address the betrayal of a once-trusted partner. The last section of the song speaks to the desperation and hopelessness that can come with heartbreak, as the singer feels taken advantage of and abandoned.

Overall, the song captures the intense emotional pain that can come with a breakup, as well as the sense of feeling used or taken for granted by someone who was once loved and trusted.

@@lobohobo9218 I'll never intellectually understand this but emotionally I feel like history wasted a great opportunity there.

At the same time, though, I feel like Danielle wouldn't fit as a superstar/celebrity...she and Gregg seem to aim for authenticity, firstly and mainly.

Yet, I it's for her to tell us, right? I feel like we need a long, high-quality interview from her so we can discover more.

I come from a place of non-judgement so I just hope she is in an authentic place in her life, you know.

Still, her vocals and artistry...top quality.

Portable Life is one of the most amazing (alas commercially unreleased) albums ever - a real shame more people haven't heard it.

Her last really good song, sounds like the folk/pop of the Abandoned Luncheonette era Hall & Oates. Unfortunately in 1999, that sound was pretty much dead at radio. I assume RCA was trying to rush something out to take advantage of whatever New Radicals buzz that was left. Promo singles had been pressed and worked to radio. It's not that unusual for labels to have false starts and pull back on release. Sometimes they send the artist back into the studio, maybe with a different producer to record some new material while they plan a relaunch with a different song a few months later. For RCA to pull the plug altogether, they must have gotten feedback that really spooked them. Radio folks must have told them sorry they weren't playing Danielle Brisebois

I thought Arrive All Over You was the only album! I'm so happy and frustrated that Portable Life exists. I'm sure it is amazing. Gregg and Danielle have such good taste; they know what they're doing.

@@pedrokoury1352 Actually she did everything she could to return to superstar/ celebrity status. By the time of I've Had It, she'd already jumped the shark how many times?!
