Danny has released many free projects over the web, the most popular being 2011’s XXX. Brown released the album "Hawaiian Snow” with G-Unit’s Tony Yayo and several mixtapes (Detroit State of Mind 1-4, Browntown, It’s A Art (with producer Mainframe) and Hot Soup). Brown has found much success on the internet through the support of the music blogs and social media and the decision to release “The Hybrid” online as a free download.
Danny has worked with many artists in the Detroit hip-hop community such as the late J Dilla, Black Milk, Elzhi, Guilty Simpson, Trick Trick, and T3. Also known for championing up-and-coming artists, Danny has worked with lesser known acts such as Oakland, California's Main Attrakionz and is know for promoting these types of underground acts via his twitter.
Brown spent most of the summer of 2010 touring with G-Unit, and a few months later released “Hawaiian Snow” with Tony Yayo. Due to lack of promotion the sales were disappointing, however through the G-Unit connection Brown was able to experience firsthand the rigors of touring and the workings of the music industry as a whole. The experience served to jade Danny to the concepts of being on a major label and committing himself to appealing to an urban audience who he felt rejected him because of his look and style of dress which consisted of skinny jeans and vintage tees as 50 Cent refused to sign Danny Brown to G-Unit because he didn’t approve of his distaste for baggy denim. No longer concentrating on appealing to any particular audience, With this new found freedom, Danny delved into making more experimental music based on influences like UK Grime and Progressive Rock.
His experimental sound melded with traditional street narrative has brought about attention from progressive press such as Pitchfork.com, Fader Magazine, Spin Magazine and the like but no press more satisfying than making the cover of the Detroit Metro Times, his hometown’s alternative art’s and culture magazine.
Danny’s music later found a home on Fool’s Gold Records, the independent label helmed by internationally heralded DJ A-Trak and his partner Nick Catchdubs. The label and the artist having the same mindset, the two parties are now focused on releasing his upcoming projects, a free album that released Summer 2011 entitled “XXX” and his untitled Fool’s Gold records debut coming subsequently after.
His albums that followed also received positive feedback (Old, Atrocity Exhibition, U Know What I'm Sayin?).
He then sadly dunked on anyone else who had the misfortune to drop in the calendar year 2023 by dropping album of the decade Scaring the Hoes Vol. 1 with JPEGMAFIA on March 24th. It tragically received praise from disgraced music reviewer the BallDrop, but contrarily to this otherwise mark of disgrace from the worst person we all have the displeasure to be aware of, the album actually fye asl.
You know he had to go two for two on the DLC of Scaring the Hoes on the sacred national holiday of 7/11. No skips all Ws and is not mixed like shit for the "aesthetic" anymore, and JPEGMAFIA dodges the corny allegations by making Danny audible. Great news all around.
On October 17th, he began the rollout for his highly anticapted sixth studio album with the single Tantor (fire as fuck).

Danny Brown Lyrics

You'd swear it was 1985
and Teen Wolf just dropped
And my name was Michael J. Fox
But no bitch it's Danny Brown I got some weed up in my sock
So bitch get high with ya nigga
The sack I got is looking some green caterpillars
But it smell like a skunk that's oh so defensive
I'm off the chain like broke nunchucks
From where these little niggas try to shoot you off that new Chucks
A little dark like wet Nubuck
Describes my state of mind is inside the tomb of King Tut
Murders all the time is all I see
Detroit 187 on you niggas TV
And I can first agree this beat kill a nigga no charges
Fuck a female MC and a pop artist
Oh baby, I like it raw
And my dick so big left stretch marks on her jaw
I'm so institutionalized
I wake up 6 a.m. because I think it's to learn
Borderline porcupine, a step from drinking turpentine
Just to wash down a plate of wack rappers rhymes
I got a mind in the cosmos
And if these niggas cold then I guess I'm osmosis
That be blowing on some potent, that these white boys be growing
While you niggas smoking something smelling like a tanning lotion
My concoctions could make world ending potions
These other rap niggas got lines I got encroachments
I get endorsements, so motherfuck your co-sign
Punch punchlines I'll punch rappers 'til your broke spine
'member back in '09, I told 'em it was showtime
Now they pull they cam phones out when I go for mine
Light camera action, Hybrid be snapping
'Cause the days of no tissue had to wipe with wet napkins
Smear up the classifieds know it sound trife
But to be honest a metaphor for my life
(Stat)
Buzzing off the barbiturates and amphetamines
Chase it with a 40 Oz of Ready Clean
I swear I never ever smoke the better weed
Your bitch said I'm the swaggiest nigga she ever seen
Run up in your crib, two K's, one mag
Your girl get snatched like Cool J in I'm Bad
Cost to live, you ain't made enough
Guarantee bullet holes with a laser touch
European garments drape my body if I ain't hipstered up
If she smile with eye contact then the bitch will fuck
Homie gon' make me send them killers after him
Them niggas swing swords like World Fence Champions
You was popping pills and drinking liquor
Now you thinking you a gangsta killer
I leave you stanking nigga, laid down
Face down like you taking a planking picture
But I can keep the shots in the weapon
Put the bat to back of your leg
Grab your chin and the back of your head
And twist them shits in opposite directions
In Danny Brown's song Detroit 187, the rapper describes his life in the rough and often violent city of Detroit. He begins by describing his sexual encounters with women who are so eager to be with him that it's as if he's a famous actor in the 80s. He informs them that he's Danny Brown instead and has some weed in his sock. He then goes on to describe the quality of the weed, which is potent but smells bad. The rapper then talks about the struggles of growing up in Detroit and the violence that is a constant presence in his city. He references the TV show Detroit 187, which is about a fictional group of Detroit homicide detectives, implying that the reality of the city is often just as brutal.
In the second verse, Brown talks about his mental state and how he feels trapped in his environment. He compares himself to a porcupine and references his drug use. He then boasts about his unique lyrical style, stating that he has something that other rappers lack. He mentions making money from endorsements and not needing anyone else's approval. Brown also references his previous music and how he predicted his own success. He ends the verse with a metaphor about wiping his ass with wet napkins, describing the difficulty of life in his city.
Overall, Detroit 187 reflects Danny Brown's experiences growing up in a violent and impoverished city, and how those experiences have impacted him both mentally and creatively.
