wouldn't it be good
Danny Hutton Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You got it easy, you don't know when you've got it good
It's getting harder, just keeping life and soul together
I'm sick of fighting, even though I know I should
The cold is biting
Through each and every nerve and fiber
My broken spirit is frozen to the core
Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes
Even if it was for just one day
And wouldn't it be good
If we could wish ourselves away
Wouldn't it be good to be on your side
The grass is always greener over there
And wouldn't it be good
If we could live without a care
You must be joking, you don't know a thing about it
You've got no problems, I'd stay right there if I were you
I got it harder, you couldn't dream how hard I got it
Stay out of my shoes if you know what's good for you
The heat is stifling
Burning me up from the inside
The sweat is coming through each and every pore
I don't want to be here no more
I don't want to be here no more
I don't want to be here no more
Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes
Even if it was for just one day
And wouldn't it be good
If we could wish ourselves away
Wouldn't it be good to be on your side
The grass is always greener over there
And wouldn't it be good
If we could live without a care
I got it bad, you don't know how bad I got it
You got it easy, you don't know when you've got it good
It's getting harder, just keeping life and soul together
I'm sick of fighting, even though I know I should
Danny Hutton's song "Wouldn't It Be Good" presents two people with different problems who both envy each other. The first verse implies that the singer has it rough, with life becoming increasingly harder for him. He's tired of putting up a fight and struggles to keep his life and spirit intact. He feels as if his spirit is frozen and numb, so much so that he doesn't want to be where he is anymore. He then wishes to be in the other individual's shoes for just one day, thinking that things would become more manageable, even though it's only temporary.
In the second verse, the other individual believes that the singer has nothing to complain about and imagines that his life is a walk in the park. Nevertheless, the singer is convinced that the other individual could never dream how hard his life is, and he tells her to stay out of his shoes. Moreover, the singer is burning up from the inside while sweating profusely from every pore, and he doesn't want to be where he is anymore. The chorus repeats the notion of wanting to switch places, imagining that everything will be better on the other side.
In "Wouldn't It Be Good," Danny Hutton tries to communicate a frequently felt human experience of thinking that our problems would disappear if we walked in someone else's shoes. But, at the same time, the song highlights the fact that such problems might not be as terrible as we initially suspected. We must remember that everyone experiences life differently, and we can't assume their life is trouble-free just because it appears that way from the outside.

Its Danny Hutton of Three Dog Night!! But those judging what version of the song is butter, keep in mind this song from the movie was in the New Wave Music days so thus version had to match the music trend. The style fits the 80s to a tee!!!
Danny was also a solo singer in the 1960s

All this time I didn’t know the version used in the film wasn’t the original
