Born in 1970 and raised in Kitchener, Ontario , he began his professional career playing with the Rhinos before beginning a solo career. In the late 1990s, he moved to Ottawa, where he developed a loyal following with a weekly show at the Manx Pub on Elgin St. In his live shows, he often uses looped live samples of his guitar and other instruments to create a richly layered solo performance. While at the Manx he often entertained with cover versions of songs by some of his favourite artists, including David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, and the Rheostatics. At the same time, he began to amass an extensive repertoire of original tunes, and briefly joined local power-pop band Starling.
As a songwriter, he has released six albums, including an album devoted to covers David Bowie songs. His albums have often been recorded in a home-studio with him performing most, if not all, instruments. He is a talented guitarist who is universally lauded for his lyrics, having been compared to Elvis Costello and received accolades from renowned Canadian author Timothy Findley.
In 2004, Danny was nominated for Best New Artist at the Juno Awards following the release of his album "Tales from the Invisible Man" the previous year. The award went to Michael Bublé.
Ashes To Ashes

We know Major Tom's a junkie
Strung out in heaven's high
Hitting an all-time low
Do you remember a guy that's been
In such an early song?
I heard a rumor from ground control
They got a message from the action man
"I'm happy, hope you're happy, too
I've loved all I needed love
Sordid details following"
The shrieking of nothing has given us
Pictures of Jap girls in synthesis
And I ain't got no money, and I ain't got no hair
But I'm hoping to kick, for this planet keeps glowing
Ashes to ashes, funk to funky
We know Major Tom's a junkie
Strung out in heaven's high
Hitting an all-time low
Time and again, I tell myself
I'll stay clean tonight
But the little green wings are following me
Oh no, not again
And I'm stuck with a valuable friend
I'm happy, hope you're happy, too
One flash of light, but no smoking pistol
I've never done good things
I've never done bad things
I've never done anything out of the blue, wo wo
I want an axe to break the ice
I wanna come down right now
Ashes to ashes, funk to funky
We know Major Tom's a junkie
Strung out in heaven's high
Hitting an all-time low
My mama said to get things done
You better not mess with Major Tom
My mama said to get things done
You better not mess with Major Tom
My mama said to get things done
You better not mess with Major Tom
My mama said to get things done
You better not mess with Major Tom
My mama said to get things done
You better not mess with Major Tom
You better not mess with Major Tom
The lyrics to "Ashes To Ashes" by Danny Michel were originally written by David Bowie, and they explore the decline of Major Tom, the character who Bowie wrote about in his earlier hit song, "Space Oddity." In this song, Major Tom is revealed to be a drug addict, and he is described as being "strung out in heaven's high" and "hitting an all-time low." The lyrics are full of references to other Bowie songs, as well as his personal life.
The chorus of the song repeats the line "ashes to ashes, funk to funky," which can be interpreted in a number of ways. One possible interpretation is that it represents the cyclical nature of life, with everything eventually returning to dust. Another interpretation is that it refers to the evolution of music, from the ashes of earlier styles to the funk sound that was popular in the early 1980s.
Another key theme of the song is addiction, with Major Tom being portrayed as being helpless in the face of his drug use. The line "Time and again, I tell myself I'll stay clean tonight" suggests that he is aware of his problem, but unable to resist the urge to use drugs. Throughout the song, there is a sense of hopelessness and resignation, with Major Tom seemingly doomed to continue his downward spiral.
Overall, "Ashes To Ashes" is a complex and multi-layered song, with lyrics that are open to interpretation. It can be seen as a commentary on addiction, the cycle of life, or the music industry, among other things. Whatever its meaning, it is a powerful and haunting song that has stood the test of time.

Danny, you are my kind of genius. Like, do you just wake up and think "what song shall I awesomify today?".
Either you're a genius because it is that easy, or you are a genius because you make it look like it's that easy. Either way, you and your covid cover band is genius.
