Volare
Dany Brillant Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Soltanto per me...

Volare... oh, oh!...
Cantare... oh, oh, oh, oh!
Nel blu, dipinto di blu
Felice di stare lassù.
Una musica dolce suonava
Soltanto per me

Volare... oh, oh!...
Cantare... oh, oh, oh, oh!
Nel blu, dipinto di blu
Felice di stare lassù.
Una musica dolce suonava
Soltanto per me

Volare... oh, oh!...
Cantare... oh, oh, oh, oh!
Nel blu, dipinto di blu
Felice di stare lassù.
Volare... oh, oh!...
Cantare... oh, oh, oh, oh!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dany Brillant's song Volare are about a dream of flying, where the singer paints himself blue and gets carried away by the wind. He soars higher and higher, leaving the world behind and listening to a sweet music that is just for him. He sings about his happiness at being up in the blue painted sky, where he can fly freely and sing to his heart's content.

The song is a tribute to Italian singer Domenico Modugno, who wrote and performed the original version of "Volare" (which means "to fly" in Italian) in 1958. It became an instant classic, winning Modugno two Grammy Awards and selling millions of copies worldwide. Brillant's version, released in 1996, was a French adaptation of the song that also became a hit.

One interpretation of the lyrics is that they represent a desire for freedom and escape from the constraints of everyday life. The singer longs to fly away and leave his troubles behind, experiencing a sense of bliss and contentment. The blue paint could symbolize a feeling of being different or unique, standing out from the crowd and following one's own path.
