They first appeared in 2008 with an elaborately packaged self-released demo (Flight of Pegasus) that garned a good deal of favorable attention from the metal press and other bands (including Relapse Records' Minsk). It is easy to see why this unsigned band turned so many heads, as there are several obvious elements that separate them from their peers.
They released their first full-length album, Spirited Migration, in 2009.
The original lineup :
Stevie Floyd - guitars, vocal ;
Rob Shaffer - drums, vocal.

Dark Castle Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics "birds fly skies sigh" from Dark Castle's song Flight can be interpreted in several ways. One way to see it is as a nod to the fleeting nature of life. Birds, being creatures of flight, represent freedom and mobility, while the sigh of the skies may represent the passage of time or the inevitability of change. It could also be viewed as a commentary on the fragility of life, with both the birds and the skies being vulnerable to destruction or disruption.
In a more mystical interpretation, the lyrics might refer to the concept of transcendence, of leaving the earthly realm behind and ascending to a higher plane of existence. In this sense, the birds might represent the soul or spirit, and the sigh of the skies could signify the opening of a gateway or portal to another world. Whatever the meaning, the imagery of birds and skies creates a vivid picture of the wonders of nature and the mysteries of the universe.
Overall, Dark Castle's song Flight is an introspective and atmospheric track that explores themes of longing, transformation, and the beauty and impermanence of life.

Along with Eagle Twin's "The Unkindness of Crows", this is, imo, the greatest metal release of 2009.

Totally in the vein of Crust/Sludge/Doom and yes very progressive, as had been seen in the Crust, Sludge, and Doom Metal styles when they began to develop. This band has the ilk of Amebix, Neurosis, and Tragedy.

Progressive doom rock, I can even hear an Adam Jones sensibility...sounds like nothing else on the doom front I've heard.
