caterpillar
Dark Project Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I think that I have felt it too much
More than just my name.
I swear by God I have this feeling
I need you to explain

All I want is to face the mirror,
He who wears no shame
Trying to break this bondage
My chrysallis to shed.

And this world is getting darker every moment
Like the clouds in a summer sky.
And the walls that I build around myself
And hope that I will fly.

It's been too late and makes me feel that
The dusk is on the air
I'll be waiting for the moonlight
To navigate my way

Every minute is stretching hard
Growing in a shape
Waiting to break the bondage
My chrysallis to shed.

And this world is getting darker every moment
Like the clouds in a summer sky.
And the walls that I build around myself
And hope that I will fly.

This world has got darker at this moment
A truth that I can't deny

This wall that I've build around myself...
tomorrow I will fly.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dark Project's song "Caterpillar" speak of a deep yearning for personal growth and transformation. The singer feels as though they have "felt it too much," and need someone to "explain" that feeling. They express a desire to face themselves in the mirror, to shed the shame they feel, and break free from their current state of being. The repeated phrase "my chrysallis to shed" reinforces this metaphor of transformation from a caterpillar into a butterfly.

Throughout the song, the singer acknowledges that the world around them is becoming darker by the moment, using the imagery of clouds in a summer sky. This darkness seems to be both a result of their own struggles and a reflection of the state of the world at large. The walls they have built around themselves in order to protect themselves from this darkness are hindering their ability to fly, to reach their full potential.

However, the final lines of the song offer a sense of hope. The singer acknowledges that the world is currently dark, but they believe that they will fly tomorrow. This suggests that they have the strength and determination to break out of their chrysalis and begin a new chapter in their life.

Overall, "Caterpillar" is a powerful meditation on the desire for personal growth and the struggle to overcome obstacles in order to achieve it.

The most amazing thing is the fact the animal does everything instinctively. It somehow knows how to get out of the old skin and what to do with it. It knows when to make a cocoon and how. This is incredible! Nature is awesome :)

@Marwaan Rajakazee You're right :) Sometimes I think of God as of an engineer, other times it seems He is an artist. He is awesome!
