Rimed with Frost
Dark the Suns Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
beneath the veil of winter
on this freezing ground
buried by waves of snow
In cold lifeless light, in northern night
we’ll lay down and sleep under the wings
There won’t be dawn
no dawn for us
You were my angel
in this quiet world
Now we are buried down
by the snow that keeps on falling...
The lyrics to Dark the Suns's song Rimed with Frost depict a somber and isolated setting, where the singer and their companion are enduring a harsh and unforgiving winter. The opening lines, "In silence we dwell/ beneath the veil of winter/ on this freezing ground/ buried by waves of snow," set the tone for the rest of the song. The winter imagery is stark and vivid, with the implication that the singer is stuck in this frigid landscape with no escape. The following lines, "In cold lifeless light, in northern night/ we’ll lay down and sleep under the wings," suggest that the singer has given in to the elements and is resigned to waiting out the winter with their companion. The image of sleeping "under the wings" could be interpreted as finding solace or safety in each other's company, even in the face of hardship.
The chorus of the song, "We are still here, rimed with frost/ There won’t be dawn/ no dawn for us," adds to the melancholic atmosphere of the song. The repetition of "rimed with frost" underscores the idea of being frozen in place, both physically and emotionally. The lack of dawn represents the absence of hope or a way out - the singer and their companion are trapped in this winter wasteland indefinitely. The final lines, "You were my angel/ in this quiet world/ Now we are buried down/ by the snow that keeps on falling...," convey a sense of loss and nostalgia. The snow that once may have been seen as beautiful or magical has become a burden, burying the singer and their memories beneath its relentless weight.
