1. Darkside is a musical duo composed of guitarist Dave Harrington and electronic producer Nicolas Jaar. Despite having different musical backgrounds, they found common ground through touring together and have created a unique fusion of electronic and psychedelic rock music. Nicolas Jaar rose to fame in New York City's underground techno scene and has since incorporated rock music into his work. Dave Harrington started as a bass player in experimental jazz and has expanded his skills to include other instruments and film scoring. Together, they started experimenting in the studio and produced the album "Psych", which explores the intersection of rock and 21st-century dance music. The album is a breakthrough for the duo and showcases their uncompromising creativity.
2. Darkside is an Austrian death metal band that formed in 1991. It was initially founded by bassplayer Peter Bรถhm and drummer Robert Grรถgler, who started composing and rehearsing their music. They were soon joined by Peter Durst who added vocals and guitar to the band. In spring of 1992, the trio recorded their first demo, "Depression," which was a collection of four powerful death metal tracks. The band later added a keyboard player, Wolfgang Sรผssenbeck, to bring more melody and variety to their music.
However, just before they were ready to record their second demo, Durst started experiencing health problems with his right arm and the band was forced to look for a substitute. Herbert Knรถchel filled in the vacant place and eventually became the fifth member of Darkside. The second demo, "Herbst," showed the progression of the band's style and received excellent reviews in the Czech press.
Thanks to their friendship with Krabathor, a death metal band, Darkside had the opportunity to perform in a series of concerts in Czech Republic and Slovakia. In 1994, they recorded and released their first full-length album, "Melancholia of a Dying World," which received critical acclaim in both foreign countries and the Czech Republic. The band went on tour with Carcass, Vader, and Krabathor, among others. However, Herbert Knรถchel left the band in early 1995 due to personal issues.
In 1995, Darkside signed with the German record label Impact Records, which founded a sublabel, System Shock, specifically for them. Their album "Melancholia of a Dying World" was later licensed by the Florida-based independent label Conquest Music for the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Darkside then began work on their second album, "Shadowfields," which was recorded in the Past Studio under the production of Vincent Dijkers, a Dutch producer. The album contained orchestral arrangements mixed with death metal. Throughout their career, Darkside performed in concerts and festivals, including the Attack of Fire and the legendary Horepnik-Slamdance.
3. A doomcore musician from the UK. Has some releases with legendary Fifth Era and is also a part of Fifth Era Records and Fifth Era DJ Squad. He has also started up his own record label called Hellfire Records.
4. A short-lived incarnation of desert rock force Yawning Man. Featuring Mario Lalli, Alfredo Hernandez, Scott Reeder & Herb Lineau. They delivered one track called 'Right's Right' for the soundtrack to the 1984 movie 'Desperate Teenage Lovedolls'.
Liberty Bell
Darkside Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The house of a sinner gone, now come here too
See me alive
Put me in the sinner wall
You won't send in a rose
That's for people I can see
They only got us on
On that sea
The worst of me gets on
Running around, give up, on a knee
Lay down on his own
Written in eternity but the color's wrong
And anyone can see
Written all along
Yes, everyone can see
Written all along
For the ribbon on her finger
Like the liberty bell
Shining in the night
An arrow that I drew
And a jockey dressed in black
Blood on the racehorse
Tell when to place the show
Announcing my mistake
Announcing my mistake
These are the pivots on the gods
The lyrics to Darkside's song Liberty Bell create a mysterious and eerie atmosphere, filled with abstract and enigmatic lines that leave the interpretation to the listener's imagination. The first few lines seem to describe a sense of foreboding, as the singer sees something ominous coming towards him or her. The allusion to the "house of a sinner gone" adds a layer of ambiguity, suggesting that perhaps the singer is also a sinner, or that the figure approaching is somehow associated with sin.
The next few lines introduce the concept of the "sinner wall" and the idea that the singer is being put there. This could be interpreted as a form of punishment or confinement, perhaps related to their sins. The line "you won't send in a rose, that's for people I can see" creates further intrigue, as it implies that some people are receiving a different treatment than the singer. The verse ends with a series of disconnected images, such as "rippled over leaves" and "the worst of me gets on", which add to the dreamlike quality of the lyrics.
The next section of the song introduces more concrete images, such as the "liberty bell shining in the night" and a "jockey dressed in black". The line "announcing my mistake" is repeated twice, as if to emphasize the idea of being judged or publicly shamed. The song ends with the enigmatic phrase "these are the pivots on the gods", which could refer to the idea of fate or divine intervention.
Overall, the lyrics to Liberty Bell create a sense of unease and confusion, leaving the interpretation up to the listener's own imagination and experience.

I admire Nico for how he does music. He doesn't need to release album after album to keep fans interested. I feel he keeps his creative process sacred, taking the time he needs before releasing his next piece.
What I find so astonishing is that he has grown such a solid and loyal fan base that we are ready to hear what he has to give to us right away.
