Candyman
Darlia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Skyline high, backdrop low
Choose which doomsday suits you most, while I set the scene.

The ribbons that remind where a memory goes, to rub it in your face that your missing out. I'm starting to see

So what's it gunna be? Ooh you got me, yeah you got me.
Tell me what you see, ooh when you read my palm as I wave as I walk away.
Need I remind that if were animals, we're living in a habitat without a home and it's no place to be.

I need to get out into the Amazon. To call it mankind would be arrogant and irony.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Darlia's song Candyman are quite cryptic, but they seem to be reflecting on the idea of choice and the consequences that come with it. The first two lines capture the idea of a vast expanse of possibilities, with the skyline high and the backdrop low. It's as if the world is an open canvas, and we're the artists who get to choose how we paint it. In the next line, the singer speaks of ribbons that remind us of our memories, and how they can rub it in your face that you're missing out on something. The feeling of FOMO (fear of missing out) seems to be a driving force behind these lyrics.

The chorus of the song seems to be a conversation between the singer and the person they're addressing. The singer seems to be questioning the other person about what they see when they look at them. It's almost as if they're challenging the other person to decipher their true intentions. In the last part of the song, the lyrics take a philosophical turn. The singer muses on the fact that if we're animals, we're living in a habitat without a home. It's a bleak thought, but there's a sense of urgency in the way these lines are delivered. The singer seems to be saying that we need to find our place in the world before it's too late.

Skyline high, backdrop low,
Choose which doomsday suits you most,
While I set the scene,
The ribbons that remind where a memory goes,
To rub it in your face that you're missing out,
I'm starting to see,

So what's it gonna be,
Oooh you got me, yeah you got me,
Tell me what you see,
Oooh when you read my palm as I wave as I walk away,

Need I remind, if we're animals,
We're living in a habitat without a home,
And it's no place to be,
I need to get out into the Amazon,
To call it mankind would be arrogant and irony,

So what's it gonna be,
Oooh you got me, yeah you got me,
Tell me what you see,
Oooh when you read my palm as I wave as I walk away,

So what's it gonna be,
Oooh you got me, yeah you got me,
Tell me what you see,
Oooh when you read my palm as I wave as I walk away,

My English teacher introduced me to this band and song 6 years ago just before I left for college, shame they didn’t blow up as big as they should’ve done, great sound and talent.

Those harmonies on the chorus are just utterly killer. So so so good. Reminds me of someone but I'm not quite sure... maybe Silverchair?

Grunge Grunger

DW.FM it reminds of In Bloom by Nirvana

Alice in Chains for me, those vocals on the chorus

This band is amazing and reminds me of pretty much all the genres and songs I loved since I was very little. My life has been preparing me for this band. Amazing melodies, vocals and timelessness.

Paige Edwards

Heard this on the radio today and they kind of sound like the love child of Nirvana and Oasis... and yet they're still unique and different. I love them!
