Candyman
Darlia Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Choose which doomsday suits you most, while I set the scene.
The ribbons that remind where a memory goes, to rub it in your face that your missing out. I'm starting to see
So what's it gunna be? Ooh you got me, yeah you got me.
Tell me what you see, ooh when you read my palm as I wave as I walk away.
I need to get out into the Amazon. To call it mankind would be arrogant and irony.
The lyrics to Darlia's song Candyman are quite cryptic, but they seem to be reflecting on the idea of choice and the consequences that come with it. The first two lines capture the idea of a vast expanse of possibilities, with the skyline high and the backdrop low. It's as if the world is an open canvas, and we're the artists who get to choose how we paint it. In the next line, the singer speaks of ribbons that remind us of our memories, and how they can rub it in your face that you're missing out on something. The feeling of FOMO (fear of missing out) seems to be a driving force behind these lyrics.
The chorus of the song seems to be a conversation between the singer and the person they're addressing. The singer seems to be questioning the other person about what they see when they look at them. It's almost as if they're challenging the other person to decipher their true intentions. In the last part of the song, the lyrics take a philosophical turn. The singer muses on the fact that if we're animals, we're living in a habitat without a home. It's a bleak thought, but there's a sense of urgency in the way these lines are delivered. The singer seems to be saying that we need to find our place in the world before it's too late.
