His mother played songs by Frank Sinatra to him as a child, and he later became a fan of Motown and other R&B/soul music. He took piano lessons as a child, but he did not like them. He would skip the lessons and ride his bicycle across the bridge from his grandfather's farm over to the heart of the black "Chicken Hill" ghetto, where he could just listen and absorb the music.
In the 1960s, Hall attended Temple University, but did not graduate, preferring instead to spend his time singing on the street corners and play with various musicians and groups. At that time, Daryl Hohl (as he was called then) sang backup for different bands. He eventually changed his last name to Hall. Daryl Hall idolized the Temptations and began to perform session work as a singer. He first met John Oates at a band competition.
After John transferred to a different school, Daryl joined the band Gulliver, which released one eponymous album in 1969 before being dropped from their label.
Daryl is the host of the wildly popular online show entitled "Live From Daryl's House", where Daryl and the band collaborate with artists from various musical genres on the 15th of each month. The first episode aired in 2007, and it's still going strong. Best of all, it's free to watch.

Anyone but a fool would let it be
Go on anywhere you take me
I don't want to know what's pulling me
If I fall so deep
With my eyes so wide
Then I hope that feeling isn't only mine
Fools rush in
Fools rush in
And I'm a fool for love
Fools rush in
But the wise don't know
Fools rush in
Safe advice
I can't let it stop me
Love don't want to know the reason why
If we fall so deep
With our eyes so wide
Then I know the feeling isn't
Only mine
Fools rush in
Where the wise don't go
Fools rush in
And I'm a fool for love
Fools rush in
But the wise don't know
Fools rush in
The lyrics to Daryl Hall's song "Fools Rush In" tell a story of someone who is deeply in love and unable to resist the pull of their emotions. The singer is confused as to why they want their lover so desperately, and acknowledges that anyone with sense would approach the situation with caution. However, the singer is not interested in analyzing their love or trying to control it. They are willing to go anywhere their lover takes them, and are content to fall deeply in love without fully understanding why.
The chorus emphasizes the idea that "fools rush in" where the cautious and wise would not go. The singer acknowledges that they are taking a risk by falling in love so quickly and deeply, but they are willing to take that risk anyway. They are willing to be foolish in order to experience the thrill of love. The final lines of the song suggest that love is not something that can be easily explained or understood, and that the feelings of the heart cannot always be rationalized.
Overall, the song portrays love as a powerful force that can overcome reason and even common sense. The singer is willing to throw caution to the wind and embrace their emotions fully, even if that means acting like a fool.
