Fallout
Data Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What are you going to do now, where are you going to go
You always had the answers, on your phone-in show
It's never going to happen, or so you did say
For no one really wants it, but here we are today
With a fallout, it's a fallout

You'd better run for shelter, and put yourself in a
Fallout suit
You'd better get yourself used to, just living in a
Fallout suit
A satellite clockwork information, is going to give you
The duration
Of the fallout

So what are we going to do now, now that it's here
But listen to you talking, about the after care
Living in boxes, covered in lead
In three feet of concrete, to keep us from the dead
It's a fallout, it's a fallout

You'd better run for shelter, and put yourself in a
Fallout suit
You'd better get yourself used to, just living in a
Fallout suit
A satellite clockwork information, is going to give you

The duration
Of the fallout

Overall Meaning

In Data's song Fallout, the lyrics capture the theme of a post-apocalyptic world where a nuclear fallout has occurred, leaving everyone in a state of desperation and seeking refuge. The song begins with a question, "what are you going to do now, where are you going to go," suggesting a sense of confusion and helplessness. The next line mentions a "phone-in show", which could imply that people are reaching out for help but finding no real answers. The lyrics then declare that "it's never going to happen," although it's unclear exactly what is being referred to. But then the song takes a turn and reveals that "here we are today, with a fallout," indicating that the unthinkable has indeed happened.

The chorus of the song reiterates the need for protection from the fallout with the lyrics "you'd better run for shelter and put yourself in a fallout suit." The imagery of "living in boxes, covered in lead" and being "three feet of concrete" highlights the severity of the situation and the lengths people must go to protect themselves. The song concludes with the line "a satellite clockwork information is going to give you the duration of the fallout," which suggests that people are relying on technology to survive in this new world.

Overall, the lyrics of Fallout are a sobering reminder of the consequences of nuclear war and the devastating effects it can have on humanity. It speaks to the importance of preparation and protection in the face of catastrophic events.

I taped this track around 1980 off MW radio (Radio Luxembourg or John Peel) and despite seaching the internet with the lyrics for sometime (years back) never found out who it was. I'm so glad this has been made available, I found it via a lyrics search FINALLY!! Brillaint stuff, raw synths no messing still sounds fantastic. Thanks for uploading!! Does anyone know whether this stuff is available to buy on CD or download? :)
