Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Datura & U.S.U.R.A.’s song Infinity seem to touch on the theme of love in the age of technology. The future is spoken of and it seems to hold a curse for humanity – an eternity of life with no end. This is followed by the idea of love without cause being worse. The singer tries to save themselves and also the idea of ‘us’. They are questioned and blamed due to the fact that machines have no names. The lyrics then go on to state that time is life and love is what makes it worth living. This love is shared between two people, singer and listener, who are described as being different but in many ways alike. They both exist in their own spaces, perhaps miles apart, but their connection is unbroken.

The lyrics then go on to discuss their desire for each other, for soul and for touch, and for everything that they have promised. Singer and listener are portrayed as being always there for each other, in a world where robots exist and love may become a digitized experience. The lyrics suggest that love is still worth fighting for, and the singer wants to experience it in bodily form so that it can be truly thrilling. The song’s message is clear, while the technical age may attempt to disconnect us, true and meaningful connections can still exist.
