Back Again
Daughtry Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The truth behind every thing,
Behind every one lies somewhere.
I'm taking it slowly and seems like you don't care,
About little things that mean so much,
You leave me alone while you're losing touch,
And everywhere I go it isn't clear,
I can't breathe.
Because I hate it when,
The fear sets in.
And I wonder when, you'll be back again.

It's like we said a while ago, yeah.
You switch the shoes you still won't change you,
Pretend that you know me,
But you're so unaware.

And I hate it when,
The fear sets in.
And I wonder when, you'll be back again.
I remember when the fall began
And I wonder if you'll be the same again.

We've all been down this road before,
I give it all, you wanted more.
I've only got myself to blame.

And I hate it when, the fear sets in.
And I wonder when you'll be back again.
And I hate it when, the fear sets in.
And I wonder when you'll be back again.
I remember when the fall began.
And I wonder if you'll feel the same again.

We've all been down this road before,
I give it all, you wanted more.
I've only got myself to blame.

And I hate it when, the fear sets in.
(We've all been down this road before,)
And I wonder when you'll be back again.

(I give it all, you wanted more.)
(I've only got myself to blame.)

Overall Meaning

In Daughtry's song "Back Again," the lyrics express the struggle of trying to understand the truth behind someone's actions and emotions. The desolate and lonely atmosphere is set through the lead singer's somber vocal delivery accompanied by a melancholy guitar. The lyrics portray a sense of frustration and unease in that it seems like the other person is not interested in the little things that matter to him, even though they mean so much. The singer feels rather isolated and left out in this relationship. He can't seem to find clarity in anything, and it all seems muddled up and confusing. He can't even breathe in this situation that is slowly suffocating him.

The chorus "And I hate it when the fear sets in. And I wonder when you'll be back again" is a powerful emotional outburst describing the intense frustration that he feels when everything suddenly becomes obscure and unclear. The unknown leaves him with a pervasive sense of anxiety as he anxiously drums his fingers waiting for the other person's eventual return. He reflects upon the changing nature of his partner, who constantly switches shoes but doesn't change at all. The singer seems to feel as though the other person is slightly unaware of their own actions and reactions, which only adds to his confusion and loneliness. Despite his best efforts, he can't seem to get through to them, and he hates the fear that plagues him as a result.

2022 and I forgot this song existed. When I read the title I thought it was referring to "there and back again", but boy am I glad I clicked on it anyways. All of Daughtry's music is absolutely amazing, and I'm so grateful for being reunited with this masterpiece. Really wish it was on spotify, as well as "Sorry", but at least I can listen to them here.

@veganhigler6541

back when Daughtry made good music

@breakthespell2660

@Vegan Higler their newer album is also wonderful to be honest, the 2 before are more poppy of course but they’re also not half bad. they’ve always made great music and always will, just changed how they make it through the years and that’s okay.

@breakthespell2660

@Vegan Higler also considering you’ve commented on this channel 51 times declaring their new music is shit, it really isn’t. just not your taste. leave it alone if you don’t like it, nobody said you had to lmao.

@veganhigler6541

@Break The Spell its garbage, the first 2 are the only good albums.

@breakthespell2660

@Vegan Higlermaybe i’m just an insane daughtry fan but we’ll agree to disagree here
