Read it off one sentence at a time
I'm tired of all the lines
Convictions and your lies
What right do you have to point at me?
Well, I'm sitting alone thinking about it all over coffee
And still crowdin' my space are the things you still hold against meYou cannot save me
Well, it's not the time to breakdown
Well, it's not the time to breakdown
Well, it's not the time to break up this love
Keep it together now
It's not the time to break
Read it all, no need for separating here
You see what you want and try to justify
All your little lines
Convictions and your lies
What right do you have to point at me?
Well, I'm sitting alone thinking about it all over coffee
And still crowdin' my space are the things you still hold against me
You cannot save me
Well, it's not the time to breakdown
Well, it's not the time to breakdown
Well, it's not the time to break up this love
Keep it together now
It's not the time to break
Open up the book you beat me with again

Breakdown
The first verse of Daughtry's song "Breakdown" describes the frustration and exhaustion of being repeatedly criticized and judged by someone. The singer opens up "the book you beat me with again," implying that this person has used their words to hurt and attack them before. The singer is tired of being scrutinized and accused of wrongdoing, especially when the person doing the accusing is hypocritical and dishonest themselves. The questioning line "what right do you have to point at me?" highlights a sense of unfairness and lack of trust in this relationship.
The second verse reveals the singer's thoughts as they reflect on their situation alone over coffee. They recognize that the person they're dealing with is still holding past mistakes against them, even when the singer has tried to move past them. Despite this, the singer acknowledges that the person cannot save them from their pain and frustration. The chorus repeats the idea that now is not the time to give up on this relationship, that it's "not the time to break up this love." The repeated emphasis on "keep it together now" suggests that the singer is urging themselves (or their partner) to hold on and work through their issues, despite the urge to give up.
Overall, "Breakdown" is a song about persevering through difficult times in a relationship. The lyrics convey a sense of weariness and frustration with a partner who has hurt the singer in the past, but at the same time, there's a persistent desire to hold onto the love and connection they have. The repetition of "it's not the time to breakdown" suggests that the singer is trying to convince themselves to stay strong and not give up on the relationship.
