Pennies from Heaven
Dave Brubeck Lyrics

Every time it rains, it rains pennies from heaven
Don't you know each cloud contains pennies from heaven?
You'll find your fortune's fallin' all over the town
Be sure that your umbrella is upside down

Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers
If you want the things you love, you must have showers
So, when you hear it thunder, don't run under a tree
There'll be pennies from heaven for you and me

Every time, every time it rains, it's gonna rain pennies from heaven
Don't you know every cloud contains lots of pennies from heaven
You'll find your fortune's fallin', baby, all over the town
Be sure, be sure that your umbrella is upside down

Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers
If you want the things you love, you've got to have showers
So, when you hear it thunder, don't run under a tree
There'll be pennies from heaven for you and me

Yes indeed all four are at the top of their game.  I suspect this album will be cherished  well into the future.   This is a masterpiece by consummate artists.

Brubeck hatched a plan to start this number with an impromptu introduction -- leaving his other members completely in the dark.  TERRIFYING THEM.
...And at Carnegie Hall... how could Dave do this to them?
It begged Joe Morello to just join in with the jam.

Then suddenly, Dave busts out "Pennies."

Best of all, Paul plays the "impromptu intro" at the start of his solo.  So, so cool.

the great joe Morello....state of the art

Ha, that guy saying "Yeahh" in there is too good. Perfect timing. Feeling the groove.

That's Dave haha, he does it throughout the whole concert. My favourite is in Blue Rondo where he does it in time with the beat in a gap in Paul's soloing.

john vaughn

Great drum solo. Don't want to hear another one for about a month. do

love you Dave !

"...Joe (Morello) wanted to kick Paul and make him go. There was this wonderful conflict that I thought Paul needed at times in order to get him into the wonderful rhythmic playing he could play, (which) would only come from a drummer driving him. And examples of this are wonderful at the Carnegie Hall Concert. 'Pennies From Heaven' is one of the best things I ever heard Paul play." - Dave Brubeck.
