Way You Look Tonight
by Dave Brubeck

Some day, when I'm awfully low,
When the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you
And the way you look tonight.

Yes you're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft,
There is nothing for me but to love you,
And the way you look tonight.

With each word your tenderness grows,
Tearing my fear apart
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose,
It touches my foolish heart.

Lovely, never, ever change.
Keep that breathless charm.
Won't you please arrange it?
Cause I love you
Just the way you look tonight.

Mm, mm, mm, mm,
Just the way you look tonight

The melodic invention of Desmond is beautiful.

What I find so amazing is how they can take classical phrasing and turn into jazz licks. Paul Desmond is absolutely amazing. He gets nowhere near enough respect for being the excellent saxophonist that he was. And listen to the audience; they're eating it up, and this is at OBERLIN, noted for it's conservatory of music. All they turned out back in those days out was classical artists, and there they were; holding a jazz concert wtih an INTEGRATED combo. Groundbreaking stuff. RIP, DBQ

It's official: the only copy with the complete Desmond solo is the original 10" release. All subsequent editions spliced-out one entire 64-bar chorus by Paul. Look for the clarification to be forthcoming from Desmond's biographer, Doug Ramsey, as well as the jazz site of Tom Cunliffe.

Wow ! They are MOVING !

This album was my intro to Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond back in 1953 and I have been a fan ever since.

This is top flight Brubeck, superior to the Take Five date and all of the successive dates. Paul is every bit as original as Bird!

Jim Grodnik

As fresh and original today as it was 60 years ago.

Some quotes of Petruchka by Stravinsky in Paul Desmond's solo there.

Jake Hunt

I still have the original LP, purchased in Germany 1954!
