End of the Road
Dave Fenley Lyrics

And you know that I am right
Why do you play with my heart?
Why do you play with my mind?
Said we'd be forever
Said we'd never die
How could you love me and leave me and never
Say goodbye?
Without holding you tight
Girl, each time I try I just break down and cry
Pain in my head
Oh, I'd rather be dead
Spinning around and around
Although we've come
To the end of the road
Still I can't let go
It's unnatural
You belong to me
I belong to you
Although we've come
To the end of the road
Still I can't let go
It's unnatural
You belong to me
I belong to you
Girl, oh I know you really love me
You just don't realize
You've never been there before
It's only
Your first time
Oh Maybe I'll forgive you
Maybe you'll try
We should be happy together forever
You and I
Will you love me again
Like you loved me before
This time I want you to love me much more
This time instead
Just come to my bed
And baby just don't let me go
Although we've come
To the end of the road
Still I can't let go
It's unnatural
You belong to me
I belong to you
Although we've come
To the end of the road
Still I can't let you go
It's unnatural
You belong to me
I belong to you
Oh we belong together and you know that I'm right, yeah
Dave Fenley’s "End of the Road" is a love song that explores the pain of separating from one’s romantic partner. The lyrics are sung from the perspective of someone who loved deeply and believed that their love was forever. The song begins with the singer lamenting why their partner played with their heart and mind, and why they could love and leave without saying goodbye. The singer expresses the pain of being unable to sleep at night without holding their partner, and the desperation they feel at the thought of never being with them again. Although they have come to the end of the road, and the relationship has run its course, the singer cannot let go of the person they belong to, and who belongs to them.
The song goes on to plead with the partner to try and forgive each other and come back together. The singer believes that their partner really loves them but has never been there before - it’s just their first time. They hope that they can both try to make things work again and be happy together forever. The song ends with the repetition of the fact that the singer and their partner belong to each other, and although they have reached the end of the road, the singer cannot let go because it’s unnatural.

WAIT FOR THE ENDING!! SEE MY BEAUTIFUL WIFE!!! (We’re fine! Haha)
I’ve always wanted to do my version of this incredible song. Boyz II Men was the group that introduced me to R&B and soul and Motown. I knew my baritone voice by itself could never duplicate what their 4 incredible voices did as a perfect unit, but here is my best attempt at honoring an American classic. I hope you enjoy it and go easy on me with the criticism. Haha. 🙏 I’m sensitive. 🤫

Again....well done! Very personal and soulful. Really hits home and connects. The original has the vocals that are spot on but your single voice brings home the loneliness of the song. Well done Dave!!! Can't wait to see what's next.

My wife and I danced to this song in 1993 at my 7th grade her 8th grade snowball dance. We just celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary. Working on number 22. Thank you for remaking this incredible song. One that definitely holds a special place in my heart
