His next big move was when he was signed to Teddy Riley's R&B group BLACKstreet in 1994. He worked with the group on their first album and then left the group to pursue his own solo career. He was signed to DreamWorks Records and began working on an album.
In 1999, Hollister released his first albumm, Ghetto Hymns. The album was successful, going gold, and creating one hit single, "My Favorite Girl." "My Favorite Girl" reached #10 on the R&B charts.
Hollister's follow-up album, Chicago '85... The Movie was released in 2000. The album was an autobiographical work and went gold. "One Woman Man" the album's biggest single, reached #8 on the R&B charts.
For his third effort, Hollister moved to Motown Records. He hoped the new label would instill new energy into his music. The album, Things In the Game Done Changed was released in 2002 and faired poorly on the charts and radio.
As a result of the album's shortcomings, Hollister returned to DreamWorks where he released Real Talk in 2003. Following the album's release, Hollister moved to Gospo Centric.
Hollister is reportedly wrapping up his fifth album in the industry, The Book of David: Vol. 1 The Transition. The album will be coming out on September 26, 2006 from Gospo Centric.

Almost
Dave Hollister Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Walked out with intentions to
Get up with this honey
I just met on Monday
'Cause I knew she was down
We went and had a drink or two
But all I did was think of you
In spite of all our troubles
And so I stop myself
This is straight from the horse's mouth
I almost kissed her, and almost did her
And almost went there with her
And I thought about you wouldn't bounce
I know it's not that easy girl
But you gotta believe me girl
'Cause baby I ain't lyin'
I'm just sick of fightin'
And arguin' with you
Baby, why can't we be?
The way that we
Were once before
And you weren't getting on mine
And I wasn't getting on your last nerve
This is straight from the horse's mouth
I almost kissed her, and almost did her
And almost went there with her
And I thought about you wouldn't bounce
I was wrong, I was all wrong yesterday
Should've never left you feeling that way
I apologize for makin' you cry
Baby please forgive me
This is straight from the horse's mouth
I almost kissed her, and almost did her
And almost went there with her
And I thought about you wouldn't bounce
This is straight from the horse's mouth
I almost kissed her, and almost did her
And almost went there with her
And I thought about you wouldn't bounce
This is straight from the horse's mouth
I almost kissed her, and almost did her
And almost went there with her
And I thought about you wouldn't bounce
This is straight from the horse's mouth
I almost kissed her, and almost did her
And almost went there with her
The song "Almost" by Dave Hollister is about a man who is frustrated and angry with his partner and decides to leave her. He meets another woman and goes out for drinks with her but can't stop thinking about his partner and all the love they share. He acknowledges that he almost cheated on his partner but stopped himself because he loves her and doesn't want to lose her. He apologizes for his behavior and hopes that they can go back to the way things were before they started fighting.
The lyrics in the song reveal the struggles and difficulties of relationships. They highlight the importance of communication, understanding, and forgiveness in a relationship. The singer expresses how he understands the pain he has caused his partner and he is willing to make amends and try to work through their problems. The song also shows the conflict between temptation and loyalty, and how one must resist temptation to maintain a healthy and faithful relationship.
