His next big move was when he was signed to Teddy Riley's R&B group BLACKstreet in 1994. He worked with the group on their first album and then left the group to pursue his own solo career. He was signed to DreamWorks Records and began working on an album.
In 1999, Hollister released his first albumm, Ghetto Hymns. The album was successful, going gold, and creating one hit single, "My Favorite Girl." "My Favorite Girl" reached #10 on the R&B charts.
Hollister's follow-up album, Chicago '85... The Movie was released in 2000. The album was an autobiographical work and went gold. "One Woman Man" the album's biggest single, reached #8 on the R&B charts.
For his third effort, Hollister moved to Motown Records. He hoped the new label would instill new energy into his music. The album, Things In the Game Done Changed was released in 2002 and faired poorly on the charts and radio.
As a result of the album's shortcomings, Hollister returned to DreamWorks where he released Real Talk in 2003. Following the album's release, Hollister moved to Gospo Centric.
Hollister is reportedly wrapping up his fifth album in the industry, The Book of David: Vol. 1 The Transition. The album will be coming out on September 26, 2006 from Gospo Centric.

You know my steelo
I gets busy when I'm doing my thang
You say you want it
Girl I don't really think you do
'Cause I know you ain't ready
For what I'm 'bout to put down on you
'Cause I don't play games, when it comes to doing it
Better ask somebody, before you come to my party
Want to be down
Repeat 1
Better ask somebody
Better ask somebody baby
Want to be down
Repeat 1
Come on girl
Yeah, ohh
Come on in, sit down baby
Take a load off of your feet
You're gonna need a little rest baby
Before you get down with me
'Cause I brings the pain
Make you scream and shout
Make you call my name
Bet you won't forget it
It's like a drug, you're gonna be addicted
Repeat 1
Baby, I know you heard about me, mmm hmm
You say you want to be down
Repeat 1
Are you ready to fly
(Girl, are you ready for me, mm hmm)
Are you ready for me
(Tell me, do you want this ride baby?)
Do you want this ride
Well come on, come on)
Come on, come on, come on
(Hey hey hey, want to be down)
In the song "The Program," Dave Hollister is expressing his confidence in his ability to satisfy a woman sexually. He is saying that he wants a woman to be down with his program, but he knows that she may not be ready for what he has in store. He doesn't play games when it comes to pleasing a woman and he wants her to understand that before she tries to come to his party. He warns her that he will be bringing the pain and that she will be addicted to him like a drug.
Dave's message in this song is clear, he is an alpha male who is confident in his abilities to please a woman. He doesn't waste time on women who are not serious about wanting to be with him. He believes that women who want to be with him must be fully aware of what they are getting into and must be prepared for the intense pleasure that he will bring to them. His message may come across as arrogant and cocky, but it is clear that he is comfortable with his own sexuality and is not ashamed to express it in his music.
Overall, the song is a reflection of the hyper-masculine culture that has been pervasive in hip-hop music for decades. It showcases the dominance and power that men have over women in certain subcultures and promotes the idea that women must be subservient to men in order to achieve pleasure. It is important to recognize this problematic message and work towards a more egalitarian perspective on sexuality and relationships.
