Warehouse
Dave Matthews;Tim Reynolds Lyrics

So I'm leaving...
This warehouse frightens me.
Has me tied up in knots,
Can't rest for a moment.

Soon I'm going...
I'm slipping slow away
Hoping to find something better than
I've got inside here
And the warehouse slips away...

Hey reckless mind
Don't throw away your playful beginning
You and I will fumble around in the touches
And be sure to...

Leave all the lights on
So we can see the black cat changing colors
And we can walk under ladders
And swim as the tide turns you around and around

Hey we have found
Becoming one in a million
Slip into the crowd
This question I found in the gap in the sidewalk

Keep all your sights on
The black cat changing colors
We can walk under ladders
And swim as the tide choose to turn you

And here I sit
Life goes on, end of tunnel, TV set
Spot in the middle
Static fade, statistic bit
And soon I'll fade away, I'll fade away

This I admit
Taste so good, hard to believe an end to it
Smell touch feel
How could this rhythm ever quit
Bags packed on a plane
Hopefully to heaven

Shut up I'm thinking
I had a clue now it's gone forever
Sitting over these bones
You can read in whatever you're needing to

Keep all your sights on
The big bad black cat that's
Changing colors

It's not the colors that matter
But that they'll all fade away

This I admit
Seems so full
Hard to believe an end to it
Warehouse is bare
Nothing at all inside of it
Walls and halls have disappeared, they've disappeared

My love I love to stay here
My love I love to stay here
My love I love to stay here
My love I love to stay here
In a corner was wondering...
If a change could be better than this
And then I worry
Maybe things won't be better than they have been here
Here in the warehouse

At the warehouse
How I love to stay here
At the warehouse
Every man and woman get alive

That's our blood down there
Seems poured from the hands of angels
But trickle into the ground
Leaves the warehouse bare and empty

My heart's numbered beat
Still echo in this empty room
Fear wells in me

But nothing seems enough to defend
So I am going away...

Overall Meaning

The song “Warehouse” by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds is a reflective piece that captures a sense of restlessness and fear towards being trapped in one’s own thoughts or in a specific place. The song opens with a sense of urgency as the singer declares that they are leaving as the warehouse frightens them and has tied them in knots, preventing them from finding peace. The warehouse can be interpreted as a metaphor for the singer’s mind, trapping them in negative thoughts and preventing them from moving forward. The singer hopes to find something better outside of the warehouse, and as they slip away, the warehouse slips away with them.

The second part of the song seems to take the listener on a journey, leading them away from the fear and restlessness towards a sense of freedom. The lyrics encourage a sense of playfulness, encouraging the reckless mind to not throw away its playful beginning but to explore and experiment with life. The imagery is powerful as they describe walking under ladders and swimming as the tide turns them around and around, encouraging the listener to keep their sights on the black cat changing colors, an image that can be interpreted as change and the unpredictable nature of life. The singer declares how they have found becoming one in a million, slipping into the crowd, and finding a question in the gap in the sidewalk. They end the piece reflecting on their desire to stay in the warehouse, wondering if a change could be better, yet also worrying about the unknown.

@Gregory Bretz well just rough estimates of a summer tour being 50 shows x 25 years and you have 1,250, then you've got the non summer and international shows so let's add half as many of those and you get 1875 plus any press shows or just Dave+Tim shows and I'd say a conservative estimate is 2k.
