My head in the clouds
I hit this corner
With my foot on the gas
I started sliding, I lose it
Everything's different just like that
What will soon become of me
Frozen heart
Screaming wheels
Does that screaming come from me
So damn lucky, when went on ahead
You say, you say
I see you later
I heard what you said a few minutes later
I'm sliding
Everything's different, again
Oh my God, wait and see
What will soon become of me
This frozen heart
Screaming wheels
But does that screaming come from me
I'm dizzy from all this spinning
Now I'm thinking that you did all you could
When you said my love
Take it slowly
OK, is what I said
Oh my God, wait and see
What will soon become of me
Frozen heart
Screaming wheels
But does that screaming come from me
Take me back, just before I was spinning
Take me back, just before I got dizzy
Take me back, amazing what a minute can do
Just like you
So, so, so, so, up, around, around, around
Amazing what a minute can do
Around, around, around
Ok....
The lyrics of Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds's song So Damn Lucky are about a moment of chaos that occurs unexpectedly while driving. The opening verse, "Everything's different, my head in the clouds, I hit this corner with my foot on the gas" sets the scene for what is about to happen. The singer loses control of the car, leading to the screaming of the wheels and a frozen heart. The lyrics portray a moment of confusion and uncertainty, with the singer questioning whether the screaming is coming from him. This creates a sense of disorientation and self-doubt, which Matthews enhances with his emotional delivery of the lyrics.
Matthews's use of imagery captures the emotional turmoil that the singer is going through. The line "I'm dizzy from all this spinning" is a metaphor that highlights how the chaos of life can be disorienting. His use of repetition in "Take me back, just before I was spinning, take me back, just before I got dizzy" emphasizes the desire to go back to a time before the chaos occurred. The chorus of the song, "So damn lucky, when went on ahead, you say, you say, I see you later," emphasizes the realization that life could have turned out worse.
Overall, the lyrics of So Damn Lucky convey the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing the moments we have.

The man is of a different breed, both intellectually and socially. You mistake it for high, I appreciate it as genius.
@mengland8
I love how he has a 2 and half min hammered ramble and just transitions into playing flawless music. I love Dave

I was late to appreciate Dave, like late 90s. I listened to it endlessly and still, over 20 years later, it just does NOT get old. I always think "this is my favorite!" Then I hear another one...there are no favorites here, it's impossible. But right now, this is my favorite :)

PURE MAGIC! How can anyone not just love this music. Gotta love Dave's quirky personality. He's amazingly good at letting down all the pretense and just being himself. A lot of musicians could learn the value of being human on stage from Dave and what it adds to the music. Just awesome.
