You laid down and gave to me just what I'm seeking
Love, you drive me to distraction
Hey my love do you believe that we might last a thousand years
Or more if not for this,
Our flesh and blood
It ties you and me right up
Celebrate we will
Because life is short but sweet for certain
We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue
These things we cannot change
Hey, my love, you came to me like wine comes to this mouth
Grown tired of water all the time
You quench my heart and you quench my mind
Celebrate we will
Because life is short but
Sweet for certain
We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue
The things we cannot
Celebrate, you and me, climbing two by two, to be sure
These days continue, things we cannot change
Oh, my love I came to you
With best intentions
You laid down and gave to me
Just what I'm seeking
Celebrate we will
Because life is short
But sweet for certain
We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue
Things we cannot change
Things we cannot change
In Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds's song "Two Step", the lyrics can be interpreted as a love song with a perspective on the uncertainty of the future. The opening verse, "Say, my love, I came to you with best intentions, You laid down and gave to me just what I'm seeking, Love, you drive me to distraction," appears to convey the singer's genuine intentions to love and be with their partner, whoever they may be.
As the song progresses, the chorus takes a philosophical turn, with the singer questioning the longevity of their love within the context of life's uncertainty. The lines, "Hey my love do you believe that we might last a thousand years, Or more if not for this, Our flesh and blood, It ties you and me right up, Tie me down," suggest that while the singer is committed to their relationship, the physical limitations of our existence come with uncertainties that sadly cannot be ignored.
Despite these uncertainties, the song ultimately conveys a sense of joy in the relationship, emphasizing the importance of cherishing every moment with a loved one. It encourages the listener to celebrate the moments that bring joy into our lives because, in the end, life is uncertain, but it can still be sweet.

I don’t think people understand how difficult and fascinating Tim’s playing is from 4:50-5:46. It’s immaculate.
Monkey Butt 5000
there's a lot of mistakes in there

Underwhelming is probably more accurate..

I don't think you understand the difference between speed and accuracy. As the other 2 posters have said it's filled with a lot of mistakes and missed notes. Of course he's an amazing guitar player but just because he's playing fast here doesn't mean it's immaculate at all. You can watch and listen to the flat and missed notes all throughout the solo. I'm taking nothing away from his as a player as yes he's amazing at times but on this song he's far from perfect.

Equally difficult is Dave keeping time underneath it.
