Seduction
David & Diane Arkenstone Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Are not enough
Though sweet as wine
As thick as blood
Passionless moments
And we are homeless
Out on the street
And things aren't bad
Got what he wants
Lost what he had
He soon adjusted
And got accustomed
To these new ways
Blame God, how can you lose?
Singing such sweet Rhythm and Blues
Strange days, she said to me
Being in love ? don't mean you're free
But night reveals
What daytime hides
Who lingers on
Who sleeps outside
A soft seduction
A strong attraction
Somewhere downtown
A junkie's song
A dancer's knees
The laws of chance
Strange as it seems
Take us exactly
Where we most likely
Need to be
The David & Diane Arkenstone's song Seduction depicts the struggles of a relationship that is held together by more than just love. It begins by stating that "the words of love are not enough, though sweet as wine, as thick as blood". This is to say that although love is an essential and fundamental part of a relationship, it is not the only factor that contributes to its success. Passionless moments in the relationship make the couple homeless and out on the street, signifying the fact that the absence of passion makes the relationship unlivable.
The song highlights that life is cool and the man has gotten what he wants but lost what he had. He has soon adjusted to the new ways and gotten accustomed to them. The lyrics say that he sings such sweet rhythm and blues and wonders how he could lose until he realizes that he was being controlled by these new ways. The woman in the relationship finds solace in the strange days of being in love, but she believes that being in love does not mean that you are free. In other words, she feels that she is captive to the love she shares with her partner.
The lyrics further elaborate on the soft seduction and strong attraction in downtown that lures people even during the night. They bring forth the idea that the laws of chance, strange as it seems, take us exactly where we most likely need to be. The junkie's song and the dancer's knees illustrate the fact that these people go through their own set of problems and struggles. Still, the laws of chance bring them to their respective places where they are required to be.
