DJ
David Bowie Lyrics

I'm home, lost my job, and incurably I'll
You think this is easy, realism
I've got a girl out there, I suppose
I think she's dancing
Feel like Dan Dare lies down
I think she's dancing, what do I know?

I am a D.J., I am what I play
Can't turn around no, can't turn around, no, oh, ooh
I am a D.J., I am what I play
Can't turn around no, can't turn around, no, oh no

I am a D.J., I am what I play
I got believers
Believing me, oh

One more, weekend, of lights and evening faces
Fast food, living nostalgia
Humble pie or bitter fruit

I am a D.J., I am what I play
Can't turn around no, can't turn around no, ooh

I am a D.J., I am what I say
Can't turn around no, can't turn around, ooh
I am a D.J., I am what I play
I've got believers
Believing me

I am a D.J., I am what I play
Can turn around no, can't turn around
I am a D.J., I am what I play
Can turn around no, can't turn around
I am a D.J., I am what I play
Can turn around no

Time flies when you're having fun
Break his heart, break her heart
He used to be my boss and now he is a puppet dancer
I am a D.J., and I've got believers

I've got believers
I've got believers
I've got believers in me
I've got believers
I am a D.J., I am what I play
I am a D.J.

@crustybatteryacid Black Tie White Noise in general is a highly divisive album; for every person who praises it as
Bowie's return to form, you'll get another who decries it as nothing different from Tonight or Never Let Me Down.
I myself have yet to listen to the album in full (largely because I prefer to listen to music on CD, but don't always
have the time to seek out copies), but the songs I have heard off of it, this one included, sound pretty decent. Not
quite on the level of 1. Outside, but still a good listen in its own right.

Also, I'm not sure why Vinny was surprised that this was the only song represented on the Jump CD-ROM; it was
a fairly popular single in 1993 and the lead single from Black Tie White Noise, so it makes sense to make it the
focal point of the interactive CD. It was simply an ad for the then-upcoming album, nothing more, nothing less.

[Intro]
When comes the shaking man
A nation in his eyes
Striped with blood and emblazed tattoo
Streaking cathedral spire

[Verse 1]
They say
They say
They say
He has no brain
They say
He has no mood
They say
He was born again
They say
Look at him climb
They say jump
They say jump

[Verse 2]
They say
He has two gods
They say
He has no fear
They say
He has no eyes
They say
He has no mouth

[Chorus]
They say 'hey that's really something'
They feel he should get some time
I say he should watch his ass
My friend don't listen to the crowd
They say jump
They say jump
Watch out!

[Breakdown]
Watch out!
Watch out!

[Chorus]
They say 'hey that's really something'
They feel he should get some time
I say he should watch his ass
My friend don't listen to the crowd
They say jump

[Outro]
Got to believe somebody
They say jump
Jump
Got to believe somebody
They say jump
Jump
Got to believe
They say jump
Got to believe somebody
Jump
Got to believe
Jump
Got to believe somebody
Jump
Got to believe
Jump
Got to believe somebody
Jump
They say jump
They say jump
They say jump
They say jump

@coreycox2345 I read that he wrote it in honor of his brother, because he committed suicide. I think he took his life back in the early 80s, if memory serves. You were correct in thinking that!

@coreycox2345 don't worry ha its my fault for miscommunicating 😂

People have learnt these days not to pay any attention to people who are paid and whose job it is to be a critic - whether this is music, film, restaurant etc.

When a critic raves about a new film or an album, you know it's not going be that good. For film think La La Land - the critics fell over them selves to praise it, but the public were largely unimpressed. It's a dery annoying film, with actors that can neither sing or dance in properly but the critics didn't notice this.

And music albums. When an album is given five stars by a critic, people now realise that it's not going to be worthy of five stars. It's funny how albums lauded by critics sound rubbish years later; while albums slated by critics often sound amazing, have proper depth, and stand the test of time better.

So whenever you hear a critic raving about something, don't believe them unquestioningly and take their views with a hefty pinch of salt. If they savage something it means that the public are going to love it, or if a music album it will acquire a 'cult' following and will be seen as a real hidden gem in future years. This Bowie album certainly is this.

I remember when this came out. The critics panned it quickly.

Just more proof that critics are useless.

Critics have a habit of raving about albums which didn't catch the public's imagination. .... while tearing into albums which the public generally recognise as being great albums, and which go on to sell many millions of copies worldwide.

Critics eh! ...what do they know? ....not more (usually less) than the average Joe, yet they're paid a handsome six figure salary to put across views which few end up agreeing with.

Black Tie White Noise did go to #1 in the U.K.

@Steffan Hoffmann Nah he didn't, I can see why people think that, I used to myself but he just changed direction, it's all good stuff just takes a bit more effort to enjoy, I enjoyed it more as I got older, maybe it's that.
