Starman
David Bowie The Spiders From Mars Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I leaned back on my radio
Some cat was layin' down some rock 'n' roll 'lotta soul, he said
Then the loud sound did seem to fade
Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase
That weren't no D.J. that was hazy cosmic jive
There's a starman waiting in the sky
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
'Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie
I had to phone someone so I picked on you
Hey, that's far out so you heard him too!
Switch on the TV we may pick him up on channel two
Look out your window I can see his light
If we can sparkle he may land tonight
Don't tell your poppa or he'll get us locked up in fright
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
'Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
'Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie

"Starman" is a song by David Bowie and it is a track from his fifth album, "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars". The song was released in 1972 and became Bowie's first hit single in the UK. The song was composed by Bowie during a time where he was heavily influenced by science fiction and he was exploring otherworldly themes in his music.
The song itself tells the story of an alien creature called the "Starman" who has come to Earth to spread a message of hope and love. The singer of the song is telling the listener about his encounter with the Starman and how he sees the world differently since their meeting. The song is marked by its catchy chorus and its soaring melody, both of which reflect its message of hope and optimism.
The song has become one of Bowie's most recognizable tracks and has been used in a variety of films, television shows, and commercials. The song's message of unity and love has resonated with audiences around the world and has made it a timeless classic.

I remember during the super bowl, seeing this in that commercial while I was at work. I just remember stopping what I was doing and breaking down in tears because while the commercial was probably already done, it was such a beautiful tribute to David Bowie, RIP to one of rock and rolls true icons
