I know you never even try, girl
Come on, come on, come on, come on
Please, please me, woah yeah, like I please you
You don't need me to show the way, love
Why do I always have to say, love
Come on, come on, come on, come on
I don't want to sound complaining
But you know there's always rain in my heart
I do all the pleasing with you,
It's so hard to reason with you
Woah yeah, why do you make me blue?
Last night I said these words to my girl
I know you never even try, girl
Come on, come on, come on, come on
Please, please me, woah yeah, like I please you
Woah yeah, like I please you
Woah yeah, like I please you
The lyrics of David Cassidy's song "Please Please Me" describe a man who is desperately trying to please his significant other. He speaks about how he always tries to make her happy, but he feels like he's not getting the same effort in return. The first verse sets the scene for the rest of the song, as the man expresses that he knows his partner never tries as hard as he does. The chorus contains the plea "Please please me oh yeah, like I please you," which emphasizes the man's desire for equal effort in the relationship. The following verse expresses the man's frustration with the situation, as he talks about how difficult it is to reason with his partner even when he's always trying to please her. He also questions why she always seems to make him feel blue.
Overall, "Please Please Me" is a song about the give and take in a relationship. It's a raw and honest account of the struggles many people face when trying to earn their partner's love and affection. The song highlights the inherent challenges that come with romantic relationships, where both partners need to put in equal levels of effort for the relationship to work.
