Some Kind Of A Summer

Didn't we have ourselves some kind of a time
I guess I never took the time to tell you how much I love you
Now you and the road keep flashing through my mind
You and the road keep flashing through my mind
I caught a sunrise service on a Sunday in North Dakota
Imagine you and me singing in a gospel choir
Saw the northern lights on a Minnesota night
And our souls went a little bit higher
Didn't we have ourselves some kind of a summer
Didn't we have ourselves some kind of a time
I guess I never took the time to tell you how much I love you
Oow, you and the road keep flashing through my mind
You and the road keep flashing through my mind
The old De Soto died on a hill
It couldn't climb in Montana
The kid who bought the wreck said
What the heck, I'll give you a thirty five
So we were on our own
Had our thumbs to take us home to California
By the time we made Denver
With our truck drivin' friend we had wheels on fire
Didn't we have ourselves some kind of a summer
Didn't we have ourselves some kind of a time
I guess I never took the time to tell you how much I love you
Now you and the road keep flashing through my mind
You and the road keep flashing through my mind
You and the road, you and the road on my mind
David Cassidy's song "Some Kind Of A Summer" talks about a time of adventure and love during the summer. The lyrics take the audience through various experiences that the singer and his love interest shared during their summer travels. The lines "Didn't we have ourselves some kind of a summer, Didn't we have ourselves some kind of a time" emphasizes how special and unforgettable this period was. The singer reminisces about not expressing his love enough as he says "I guess I never took the time to tell you how much I love you," which adds emotional depth to the song.
The lyrics go on to describe specific events, like a sunrise service in North Dakota, singing in a gospel choir, and seeing the northern lights on a Minnesota night. These experiences make their souls "go a little bit higher," which demonstrates the power of shared experiences. The section about the old De Soto dying on a hill in Montana showcases the struggles they had to face during their trip. However, the determination to make it back home to California kept them going. The line "you and the road keep flashing through my mind" shows how these memories have stayed with the singer and how they continue to influence him.

He really was a special creation. I cannot grasp that he has died. I see all the clips of him, photos and listen to his music, watch his Youtube videos and then it hits me at a point that he has died, that he no longer roams this planet, that he no longer gazes at the same moon and lays down and feels the same sun on his face as I do. . . that he is cremated, literally gone. I tears me up terribly . . .

@deborabump1618
the fact that he was so loved by so many, yet have been so horribly lonely....the thing is, we just never know what others are going through, even our 'heroes' who make us happy, in that almost sort of worship from afar place.

Very well put sweetheart. He was indeed a treat. But had many problems
@maxshealy6353

I am 66 years old and it wasn't trendy to be a fan/admirer of Cassidy/Partridge Family if you were a 15 year old boy. It was for the girls.He was some performer and did some quality songs. I smile when I listen to them and it takes me back to one of the most enjoyable periods of my life...Thanks David.
@twelvemeister

This song brings back so many beautiful memories of the unforgetable summer of '73. Nobody was as cute and had such a smooth voice as my very favourite David Cassidy. Thank you so much for this super clip.
