Where Are You Now
David Fanning Lyrics

I think I saw you last summer
Your hair was short and different color
I called your name but you never turned around
We used to say I love you to each other
Stay up all night and talk for hours
About forever and how we're never gonna break up

But where are you now
Maybe you're out in L.A. Livin' it up west coast
Or on a suntan beach down in Mexico
Yeah you could be anywhere for all I know
‘Cause you're nowhere to be found
So where are you now
Where are you now

Said we would run away together
Anywhere do whatever
Chase every sunset down a different streets
But now I'm staring at your picture
Thinking about what went wrong
And what I said
What you did
And how it hurt
When you left

Where are you now
Maybe you're out in L.A. livin' it up west coast
Or on a suntan beach down in Mexico
Yeah you could be anywhere for all I know
‘Cause you're nowhere to be found
So where are you now
'Cause you ain't in my arm
You ain't callin' my phone
You ain't in my car waiting on me at home
No matter where I turn or road that i go down
You ain't in this town
So where are you now
Where are you now

If you ever come back
Meet me at the same spot where you stole my heart
And said you'd never leave me

But where are you now
Maybe you're out in L.A. livin' it up west coast
Or on a suntan beach down in Mexico
Yeah you could be anywhere for all I know
'Cause you're nowhere to be found
So where are you now
Cause you ain't in my arm
You ain't callin' my phone
You ain't in my car waiting on me at home
No matter where I turn or road that I go down
You ain't in this town
Where are you now
Where are you now

Where are you now
Yeah where are you now

Overall Meaning

David Fanning’s song "Where Are You Now" seems to be about a past lover who has gone missing from the singer’s present life. The singer talks about seeing the person last summer but not being able to get their attention. The two of them used to talk all night about forever and how they would never break up. They even made plans to escape together and see the world.

However, the former lover is nowhere to be found now, and the singer does not know where they could be. There is a sense of longing and sadness in the lyrics as the singer thinks about the past and wonders what went wrong. They mention that they have been reflecting on what they said and what the other person did before they left. The singer seems to be holding on to the memories and hoping that the person will return.

The lyrics suggest that the singer has been trying to move on but has not been able to do so. They appear to be waiting for the other person to come back and meet them where they initially fell in love. The song has a melancholic tone that captures the heartache that comes with losing a loved one and trying to make sense of what went wrong.
