David Foster was part of the group Skylark whose song "Wildflower" was a huge hit in 1972. He has worked with Clay Aiken, Josh Groban, Katharine McPhee, Céline Dion, Barbra Streisand, Kenny Rogers, The Corrs, George Harrison, Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan, Filippa Giordano, Laura Pausini, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Luis Miguel, Chicago, Fred Norris, Richard Marx, Mariah Carey, Destiny's Child, Vanessa Williams, Anne Murray, Olivia Newton-John, Andrea Bocelli, Deborah Blando, Myriam Hernandez, Lara Fabian, Dolly Parton, Julio Iglesias, Gordon Lightfoot, Madonna, All-4-One, Al Jarreau, Yes, Peter Cetera and many others.

The other song, the #1 "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)", recorded by John Parr, is better known in Canada for its original inspiration, the Canadian wheelchair activist hero, Rick Hansen, who was attempting a (ultimately successful) trek around the world in his chair for his cause.
David Foster is also the name of a South African singer-songwriter who released the album "Flat to Round" in 2003.
Best Of Me
David Foster Lyrics

Still I remember
How did I ever let my heart believe
In one who never
Gave enough to me
And so many years gone
Love that was so wrong
It used to be
And how you changed the touch
Of love for me
[CHORUS:]
You were my one more chance
I never thought I'd find
You were the one romance
I've always known in my mind
No one will ever touch me more
And I only hope that in return
I might have saved the best of me
For you
And we'll have no ending
If we can hold on
And I think I've gone this far
Because of you
Could be no other love but ours
Will do
(repeat chorus)
No one will ever touch me more
And I only hope that in return
No matter how much we have to learn
I saved the best of me for you
The Best of Me by David Foster talks about a former love that still holds an important place in the singer's heart. The lyrics depict a bittersweet sentimentality as he remembers the love that he shared with someone who never really gave enough. The song describes how although the love was so wrong, it still lingers in his mind and heart. The singer notes how he had given his heart to someone who wasn't deserving of it, yet still hopes that he saved the best of himself for them. The chorus particularly stands out as he sings about how he never thought he'd find "one more chance" and "one romance" that he knew in his mind that he had been holding out for all along. The ending of the song is hopeful, with the lyrics talking about how they could potentially have an unending love if they could just hold on to each other through thick and thin.
The song, The Best of Me, has a beautiful melody and meaningful lyrics. It talks about lost love, a feeling that many of us can relate to. The opening verse "So many years gone, still I remember, how did I ever let my heart believe...," sets the tone of the song, evoking feelings of nostalgia and melancholy. The lyrics are touching, and Foster's powerful voice, paired with the orchestration, adds to the emotional depth of the song. The chorus is particularly beautiful, with the lyrical repetition adding to the emotional intensity of the song. The use of the phrase "I only hope" adds to the sadness of the song.

Foster absolutely nails this song. True love is so rare. Most people settle out of fear of being alone. Ironically, it leaves you feeling alone in the end. God bless all of you who have that true love. You are truly blessed and never take a day for granted.

My wife and I closed our wedding celebration with this song (ONJ/David Foster version). She was beaming ear to ear while I lost it! Great day, great marriage 31 years later. And she's sitting right over there while I have on headphones and she has no idea I'm listening to this.
