David Grant (born 8 August 1956, in Hackney, London) is a British pop singer and celebrity vocal coach. Grant became famous in the early 1980s as a member of UK soul/funk duo Linx, whose biggest hit was "Intuition" in 1981. He began a solo career in 1983 with the Top 40 hit "Stop and Go". Further hits included "Watching You Watching Me" and the two duets with Jaki Graham, "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love" which reached the UK Top 10 in 1985 and "Mated" which made the UK Top 20 later that year. David has more recently been seen in Fame Academy as a voice coach with his wife Carrie.
Jaki Graham (born 15 September 1956, Birmingham, England) is an English singer. Jaki originally sang in a band called Ferrari, and then went on to sing with the band Medium Wave, before becoming a backing vocalist for UB40. She appeared as a featured vocalist on the UB40's 1986 album, Rat in the Kitchen. Graham was soon discovered and went on to achieve notable chart success, including two singles in which she duetted with the former Linx member, and future Fame Academy vocal coach, David Grant. Among her chart entries were Top Ten placings for "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love", "Round and Round" and "Set Me Free". In 1990 she provided backing vocals on Kim Wilde's single release, "I Can't Say Goodbye".
Her biggest international success was reaching number one on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart in 1994, with her cover version of Chaka Khan's hit, "Ain't Nobody". Despite her star status in the UK, Graham's success in the United States has failed to cross over from the dance / club audiences. Her output beyond the 1980s has been neither as prolific or high-profile, with many of her albums seeing release only in Japan, where she maintains huge popularity.

Set me free !
Flash backs hits me right between the eyes
The man just came and said to me: I want you by my side.
Something so excited but not without a doubt
Someone get me out.
I know he means no harm to me
But building walls confining me
Can only make me want to leave - set me free !
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free!
Falling crashing in and out of love
Doing things that girls do
Then he came about.
So delightful all that I could want
But he locked the door and threw the key
Won't you let me out?
I know he means no hann to me
But building walls csnfining me...
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free...
Let me go! I said let me go! Set me free!
I know he means no harm to me
But building walls confining me...
Let me go ! I said let me go ! Set me free !
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free...
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free...
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free...
The song "Set Me Free" by David Grant and Jaki Graham is about a woman who feels trapped in a relationship. She meets a man who initially excites her, but he locks her in and won't let her leave. She insists that she knows he means her no harm, but she can't help feeling confined and trapped. She longs to be set free and released from the relationship.
The lyrics of the song describe the emotional turmoil and frustration that the woman is feeling. The flashbacks hit her right between the eyes, reminding her of all the things she's done "falling crashing in and out of love". She is excited by the new possibilities that the man offers but is uncomfortable with the feeling of confinement she experiences when he locks her in.
The repeated chorus of "Set Me Free" is a desperate plea for release and freedom. The woman is asking to be liberated from the constraints that she feels are holding her back. The repetition of these lyrics captures the sense of urgency and desperation that the woman feels.

My fav of Jaki will always get me up dancingβ¦.on watching the video has anyone else clocked that one of the dancers with the shoulder length hair looks & moves very much like Jermaine Stewartβ¦.another great music artist of the 80s
@michealkelliher8428
Best voice to come out of Britain in pop music back in the 80's and since. Criminally underrated. Love her high octane infused music compared to the crap that passes as music today.
If she was in America, she'd be a major star. Britain was not ready for a sublime R'nB blackstar voice like this back in the 80's. Shame.
@rjjcms1
She had a string of hits here in the UK in 1985 and 1986. This was one of them,peaking at number 7 in June 1986.
@newjoel18
That's true actually, didn't help that she was British. Ruby Turner had similar difficulties.
