Set me free !
Flash backs hits me right between the eyes

The man just came and said to me: I want you by my side.
Something so excited but not without a doubt
He's locked the door and thrown the key
Someone get me out.

I know he means no harm to me
But building walls confining me
Can only make me want to leave - set me free !

Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free

Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free!

Falling crashing in and out of love
Doing things that girls do
Then he came about.
So delightful all that I could want

But he locked the door and threw the key
Won't you let me out?
I know he means no hann to me
But building walls csnfining me...

Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free...

Let me go! I said let me go! Set me free!

I know he means no harm to me
But building walls confining me...

Let me go ! I said let me go ! Set me free !
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free...

Set me free
Set me free
Set me free
Set me free...

Set me free
Set me free

Set me free
Set me free...

Overall Meaning

The song "Set Me Free" by David Grant and Jaki Graham is about a woman who feels trapped in a relationship. She meets a man who initially excites her, but he locks her in and won't let her leave. She insists that she knows he means her no harm, but she can't help feeling confined and trapped. She longs to be set free and released from the relationship.

The lyrics of the song describe the emotional turmoil and frustration that the woman is feeling. The flashbacks hit her right between the eyes, reminding her of all the things she's done "falling crashing in and out of love". She is excited by the new possibilities that the man offers but is uncomfortable with the feeling of confinement she experiences when he locks her in.

The repeated chorus of "Set Me Free" is a desperate plea for release and freedom. The woman is asking to be liberated from the constraints that she feels are holding her back. The repetition of these lyrics captures the sense of urgency and desperation that the woman feels.

@rainbowlady1532

Yas finally found this 80's masterpiece

@shelleycheeseman8904

My fav of Jaki will always get me up dancing….on watching the video has anyone else clocked that one of the dancers with the shoulder length hair looks & moves very much like Jermaine Stewart….another great music artist of the 80s

@michealkelliher8428

Best voice to come out of Britain in pop music back in the 80's and since. Criminally underrated. Love her high octane infused music compared to the crap that passes as music today.
If she was in America, she'd be a major star. Britain was not ready for a sublime R'nB blackstar voice like this back in the 80's. Shame.

@rjjcms1

She had a string of hits here in the UK in 1985 and 1986. This was one of them,peaking at number 7 in June 1986.

@newjoel18

That's true actually, didn't help that she was British. Ruby Turner had similar difficulties.
