1) David Gray is a British singer-songwriter born on June 13, 1968 in Sale, United Kingdom. He released his first studio album in 1993 and received worldwide attention after the release of White Ladder six years later in 1999.
Gray moved to Wales at age 9 and later returned to the north-west of England to attend the University of Liverpool. His musical career got early support from a dedicated Irish fan base. After a few marginally-successful releases through the 1990s, Gray's breakthrough came with the worldwide release in 1999 of his fourth album, White Ladder; this was a critical and commercial success and included his best-known songs, "This Years Love" and "Babylon". In the United States, the album received a boost from jam-band leader Dave Matthews, who made it the first release by the record company he co-founded, ATO Records.
On August 11, 2001 White Ladder at last reached the top of the UK charts, having been selling steadily since its reissue the previous May, thereby setting a new record for the longest uninterrupted climb to No. 1. The follow-up, A New Day At Midnight, also hit No. 1, and Gray's seventh album, Life in Slow Motion was released on September 12, 2005.
Gray's early music was in a contemporary folk-rock, singer-songwriter mode; his primary instrument was acoustic guitar, with occasional piano. 1996's Sell Sell Sell featured some rock arrangements and electric instrumentation. Starting with the release of White Ladder in 1999, Gray began to make significant use of computer-generated music to accompany his voice and acoustic instrumentation, a technique which differentiates him from many of his peers. Despite the move to more complex music, Gray has used small-scale, often home-based, recording methods and equipment and espoused a "do it yourself" approach to music production. However, Life in Slow Motion is a collaboration with noted producer Marius De Vries.
David Gray's brothers-in-law are Paul and Phillip Hartnoll, formerly of the Techno/Rave band Orbital. Because of this relationship, Gray performed guest vocals on the Orbital single Illuminate, while Paul Hartnoll produced a breakbeat remix of Gray's song "Please Forgive Me".
His successful single "January Rain" was included in the original soundtrack of the movie Serendipity, starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale.

Dear Dad,
theres a little boy trapped inside
that makes me cry when i look into his eye's.
his dad would beat him black and blue
with a baseball bat and a hammer too.
his dad would hang him with a telephone cord
choking him till he couldn't breathe no more.
then his dad dropped him down to the ground
and kicked his helpless body all around.
the boy would be coughing while he was crying
lying on the floor feeling like he was dying.
his dad would say "I hate you son,you're an idiot,
you're so ugly you make me sick."
the boy would tell his dad " I love you even though you don't love me,
I don't know why you'd beat me and laugh while I can't breathe,
but at least you care enough about me to spend some time with me."
"I don't know where to go right now cuz it's hard for me to walk,
but if you need someone,I'm here just in case you wanna talk."
I guess you never learned how a dad should treat a son
I'm not a little punching bag for you to be beating on.
I understand someone hurt you when you were a little boy,
but please don't take it out on me and and take away my joy.
i'm so proud to be that little boy you used to care about
but that pride is quickly leaving me when you cuss and shout.
somewhere along the road in life I must have went wrong,
cuz it appears to me evidently I failed you all along.
this little boy inside is crying even though you do not hear him
what does it take to get you to stop beating him within an inch?
he's curled up on the floor like a dog without a home
the lifestyle you're beating him in is one he'll live alone
he'll never ever know what it's like to love himself
cuz you never taught him that which would"ve really helped.
i'm so confused about what to do
with someone you love who don"t love you
you told me I would always be a failure
now 10 years later I'm beating myself without a care.
I can't look into the mirror cuz I'm unable to bare,
the image of my own reflection
reminding me of your rejection.
when I look into it that's all I see
the fact that you will never accept me.
you're suppose to be someone I look up to dad,
but there's only one thing about that, that makes me sad.
I did look up to you a few times that's all
but that was because your hand was around my throat holding me to a wall.
what's the point in calling someone your father if
you're the only person in the world they won't bother with ?
The words " I love you son " never came out of your mouth,
I wonder why you never said it, is it because you didn't know how?
all my life that little boy has been hanging
on the fact that you didn't love him or even miss him.
he never got to say good-bye to you cuz you hung yourself in prison.
you gave up living life and chose to die instead.
Talking to you is like talking on the phone while the line is dead.
I pray for you at night when I'm lying in my bed
I cry for you at times cuz of the words you never said.
I wish I could tell that boy who lived inside of you
it's alright you can come outside, and you can cry,
cuz i wanna be loved too.
I wanna tell that little child that used to live inside your heart
"It's ok to express your feelings even though sometimes it's hard".
the little boy in me wants to hug the boy in you
and tell him that he loves him even though he don't love him too.
I wanna hold that boy inside and never let go
and tell him "it's ok cuz together we'll grow old".
and if you start to cry I'll hold you while I'm crying
and tell you" It's alright you can let go of all the violence".
don't let it get the best of you cuz it will take away your life,
I wish I could've told you that before you ever died.
I'm writing to you on paper even though you'll never get this,
trying to keep from crying cuz it's you I really miss.
I guess it's time for me to finally say good-bye to you,
the memories that I have inside still leave me mentally bruised.
we both have something in common that took place in both our lives
you lived inside a prison for only a few night's
but I've been living in one for my entire life.
I'm still trying to find a way out, I'm still trying to find that boy.
I lost him a long time ago when you had stole my joy.
I need to find that child who used to live in me,
and tell him that I found him a new and better daddy.
someone who won't hit him with a hammer to his head,
cuz JESUS took the hammer to HIS hands and feet instead.
I wanna introduce that little boy to JESUS CHRIST,
so he can give up pain that he's been going through his whole life,
and when I finally find him I'll open up my heart'
then he'll meet his new daddy who gave me a new start,
and together we will be, never to be apart.
I love and miss you daddy and I never will forget you,
and don't you ever forget that JESUS CHRIST died for you too.
