1) David Gray is a British singer-songwriter born on June 13, 1968 in Sale, United Kingdom. He released his first studio album in 1993 and received worldwide attention after the release of White Ladder six years later in 1999.
Gray moved to Wales at age 9 and later returned to the north-west of England to attend the University of Liverpool. His musical career got early support from a dedicated Irish fan base. After a few marginally-successful releases through the 1990s, Gray's breakthrough came with the worldwide release in 1999 of his fourth album, White Ladder; this was a critical and commercial success and included his best-known songs, "This Years Love" and "Babylon". In the United States, the album received a boost from jam-band leader Dave Matthews, who made it the first release by the record company he co-founded, ATO Records.
On August 11, 2001 White Ladder at last reached the top of the UK charts, having been selling steadily since its reissue the previous May, thereby setting a new record for the longest uninterrupted climb to No. 1. The follow-up, A New Day At Midnight, also hit No. 1, and Gray's seventh album, Life in Slow Motion was released on September 12, 2005.
Gray's early music was in a contemporary folk-rock, singer-songwriter mode; his primary instrument was acoustic guitar, with occasional piano. 1996's Sell Sell Sell featured some rock arrangements and electric instrumentation. Starting with the release of White Ladder in 1999, Gray began to make significant use of computer-generated music to accompany his voice and acoustic instrumentation, a technique which differentiates him from many of his peers. Despite the move to more complex music, Gray has used small-scale, often home-based, recording methods and equipment and espoused a "do it yourself" approach to music production. However, Life in Slow Motion is a collaboration with noted producer Marius De Vries.
David Gray's brothers-in-law are Paul and Phillip Hartnoll, formerly of the Techno/Rave band Orbital. Because of this relationship, Gray performed guest vocals on the Orbital single Illuminate, while Paul Hartnoll produced a breakbeat remix of Gray's song "Please Forgive Me".
His successful single "January Rain" was included in the original soundtrack of the movie Serendipity, starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale.

Girl and watch you go
Running through this life, darling
Like a field of snow
As the tracer glides
In its graceful arc
Send a little prayer out to ya
'Cross the falling dark
Tell the repo man
And the stars above
That you're the one I love, yeah
Perfect summers night
Not a wind that breathes
Just the bullets whispering gentle
'Mongst the new green leaves
There's things I might have said
Only wish I could
Now I'm leaking life faster
Then I'm leaking blood
Tell the repo man
And the stars above
That you're the one I love
You're the one I love
The one I love
Yee hee, yee hee
Don't see Elysium
Don't see no fiery hell
Just the lights up bright, baby
In the bay hotel
Next wave coming in
Like an ocean roar
Won't you take my hand darling
On that old dance floor
We can twist and shout
Do the turtle dove
And you're the one I love
You're the one I love
The one I love
Yee hee, yee hee
The song "The One I Love" by the British singer-songwriter, David Gray, is a poetic expression of love and loss. In the opening verse, Gray speaks about watching his lover go through life like a field of snow, while he prays for her across the falling dark. The imagery of the tracer, which is a type of bullet, gliding in its graceful arc adds a sense of beauty in the midst of danger. The song conveys a sense of urgency and desperation as Gray begs his lover to forget everything else and believe that she is the one he loves. In the second verse, Gray talks about a perfect summer night, but even amidst the beauty, there's a sense of tragedy and regret. He admits that there were things he might have said, but now it's too late as he's leaking blood, and his life is slipping away. The song ends on a hopeful note as Gray talks about dancing with his lover on an old dance floor, and they can twist and shout, and do the turtle dove, and she is the one he loves.
There is a sense of ambiguity in the song given the inclusion of certain lines such as "don't see Elysium, don't see no fiery hell." Elysium is a mythical paradise, and fiery hell is a reference to the afterlife, but Gray declaring that he can't see either of them could be interpreted in different ways. It might mean that he's not bothered about the afterlife because his entire focus is on the present, and his love for his partner is his anchor. Or it could be interpreted as a commentary on the fickleness of the world, where there's no certainty about anything, and it's advisable to hold on to what one has in the present.

Gonna close my eyes
I'm going to shut my eyes
Girl and watch you go
letting you go and watching you leave
Running through this life, darling
Living our lives while we're young and in love
Like a field of snow
Gliding through life together like two snowflakes in a field of snow
As the tracer glides
The stars shining in the sky above us as we glide through life
In its graceful arc
Their light making graceful arcs in the sky
Send a little prayer out to ya
Sending a prayer and good wishes to the love
'Cross the falling dark
Through any trials we may face
Tell the repo man
Telling everyone, even the repo man (debt collector)
And the stars above
And even the stars in the sky
That you're the one I love, yeah
That you are the one person I truly love
Perfect summers night
A peaceful and ideal summer night
Not a wind that breathes
No wind to disturb the serene night
Just the bullets whispering gentle
The only sound being the whispers of bullets through the trees
'Mongst the new green leaves
Whispers in the fresh green leaves of summer
There's things I might have said
There are things I wish I had told you
Only wish I could
But I can no longer say them
Now I'm leaking life faster
I am dying quickly
Then I'm leaking blood
Losing my life's blood
Don't see Elysium
I don't see the afterlife paradise
Don't see no fiery hell
Nor do I see hell
Just the lights up bright, baby
All I see are the bright lights of the city
In the bay hotel
In a hotel overlooking the bay
Next wave coming in
The next wave of life is approaching
Like an ocean roar
As loud and unstoppable as an ocean wave
Won't you take my hand darling
Will you take my hand
On that old dance floor
And dance with me
We can twist and shout
We can dance with wild abandon
Do the turtle dove
Dance as we did when we first fell in love
And you're the one I love
You are the only one I will ever love
You're the one I love
You are my one and only true love
The one I love
You are the person I love above all others

You put your finger on it. He is the most under-estimated talent. I'm a life-long Elton John fan and i always say that no one comes close, but David Gray does. Absolute genius.
@janrees4887
I never underrated him.
I still listen to him and he's still one of my favourites.

When a musician don't have to dress up in outrageous costumes to sell their music you know they are making good music that will last
@redkingsroyaltoysoiree6362
You feel better now??? Cause I can think of some far worse. And yet it still doesn't make their music anymore important than anybody else's.

This guy could sing the terms and conditions and I'd still have it on repeat.
