Shot Me Down
David Guetta Lyrics

We rode on horses made of sticks
He wore black and I wore white
He would always win the fight
Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
I was five and he was six
We rode on horses made of sticks
He wore black and I wore white
He would always win the fight
Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down
Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down
The lyrics for David Guetta’s song Shot Me Down narrate a story of two childhood friends who played together as young children. The first verse describes how they rode on horses made of sticks; the two friends would imagine their horses running wildly through open fields. The second verse goes on to describe how the two children would often play games together, with one of them always coming out victorious. The big twist comes in the chorus when the friend wearing black shoots the singer down. The singer in this song is essentially reminiscing on the innocence of childhood, contrasting it with the harsh realities of adulthood.
The repetition of the chorus helps to convey the idea in David Guetta’s Shot Me Down that sometimes life can take a cruel turn, with heartbreak and disappointment sneaking up on us when we least expect them. The lyrics “bang bang, he shot me down, bang bang, I hit the ground” paints a strong visual image of a violent and unexpected incident, while the line “my baby shot me down” shows that the singer was deeply infatuated with the person who ultimately betrayed them. Overall, David Guetta’s Shot Me Down is a melancholy song that explores themes of love, loss, friendship and the effects of growing up.
