We trade philosophy but nothing can free you
Too many poisoned arrows hit
The heart you try to hide
Can't we say goodbye to this foolish lullaby
You still you talk as if
He didn't hurt you
But I see what he did
And you refuse to hear the words
And lie behind your eyes
Can't you say goodbye to this foolish lullaby
If you're so sure that he's the one
But why are you lying here with me
Did he ever cross your mind at all
Of how this feels to me
I never know just what you see in him
I don't even wanna try
I guess the both of us
Sing this foolish lullaby
So we'll wear the goodbye, look
You're left in excuses
With all the time it took
To hide the abuses
The thorns around the roses left
The mark below our eyes
Can't we say goodbye to this foolish lullaby
If you're so sure that he's the one
And why are you lying here with me
Did he ever cross your mind at all
Of how this feels to me
I never know just what you see in him
I don't even wanna try
I guess the both of us
Sing a foolish lullaby
If you're so sure that he's the one
And why are you lying here with me
Did he ever cross your mind at all
Of how this feels to me
I never know just what you see in him
I don't even wanna try
I guess the both of us
Sing a foolish lullaby
The song "Foolish Lullaby" by David Hasselhoff is a strong and emotional plea for someone to let go of a toxic relationship. The lyrics describe the dynamic between the singer and a woman who constantly comes to him for comfort whenever her partner leaves her. They share their thoughts and ideas on life, but nothing seems to help her break away from the cycle of abuse. The singer points out that she continues to talk as if her partner did not hurt her, but the truth is evident in her eyes. He confronts her on why she insists on staying with him, even when it is clear that their relationship is unhealthy. The "foolish lullaby" that they both sing is the lie they tell themselves, that her partner is the one for her, despite all the hurt and pain he causes her.
The lyrics show the struggle that many people face when trying to leave a toxic relationship. The singer tries to make her aware of the abuse and encourages her to break away from it, but she refuses to listen. He acknowledges that he is also clinging to this same lie, knowing that their relationship is not healthy, yet he continues to be with her. The final lines are a powerful plea for both of them to say goodbye to their foolish lullaby and move on from this destructive cycle.
In terms of the music itself, "Foolish Lullaby" has a captivating melody that is both catchy and haunting. It is a slow ballad that is filled with emotion, with the vocals and the piano working together to create a melancholic atmosphere. The song was written by Rainer Pietsch and was released in 1993 as a single from David Hasselhoff's album "You Are Everything."

Good god. This is bad. Laura Branigan's version rules. He's constantly ahead of the measures/rhythm too. Annoying.
