Girls
David Johansen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Girls!
I like them hanging around
I like girls!
While all the boys put you down
Girls!
I like the things that they do
I like girls!
I get my pleasure with you
So come on!

Overall Meaning

David Johansen's song "Girls" is a celebration of feminine power and an expression of appreciation for the unique qualities of girls. The lyrics suggest that the singer feels a sense of solidarity with women, enjoying their company and finding joy in their actions. The first line of the song, "Girls! I like them hanging around," is a statement of the singer's fondness for the presence of women. The second line seems to indicate that the singer feels that society as a whole undervalues girls and women, but he, in contrast, sees them as valuable and worthwhile.

The chorus of the song, "Girls! I like the things that they do, I like girls! I get my pleasure with you," reinforces the message of the verses, emphasizing the singer's pleasure in being around women and his appreciation for their actions. The repeated use of the word "girls" in the chorus creates a sense of unity and connection, underscoring the idea that the singer sees all women as part of a larger whole.

Overall, "Girls" is a catchy, upbeat song that celebrates the unique qualities of women and acknowledges the importance of their contributions to the world. It is both a tribute to feminine power and a call to men to recognize and appreciate the value of girls and women.

Thanks for putting this up. I'd love to see more footage of this great band up here especially with Syl along for the ride. Used to grow my face long and act pissed off like I had a tough week and would never get carded way back when. Saw these guys and The Ramones at the same club a number of times using the same m.o. Great times. David Jo always 110% energy! Thanks!
